I LOVE the fact the headings say "The Green Who?" "Little-Known Superhero". That will surely piss off the fans. To be honest most of my friends in the UK hadn't heard of "Iron Man" before it came out and now they love it....

Reynolds has been beating himself up ever since he watched the end of X-men Origins Wolverine.

@Darkmatter

Just a little perspective, when I was telling my friends about who Iron Man was before the movie came out they thought I was talking about the story by Ted Hughes. When I told them about GL movie, they wondered why Ryan Reynolds was playign a black character.

Fair enough. I'm just saying it's really hard to debate which one is the least obscure character before a movie was made. Btw, how do you know which sold more comics?

EDIT: It just occured to me that if we should be debating anything, is that after this year, will Thor or GL be more well known?

I think each hero is definatly going to have a lot more attention. Its really hard to pick which one at the moment though IMO. This is going to be a great summer for movies. I cant really think of a movie season where I have had this ammount of movies that I cant wait to see such ast Thor, GL, Cap and Apes. Dont know much about Cowboys and Aliens but im looking foreward to that one too.
Dynamo

@HellsHammer
I think many people in America already have an idea of who Cap is. Captain America is only recognised by name in the UK. Thor... is abit strange. I love the character, but when ever I see that red poster, I don't know what the non-fan might think. It really doesn't show as much about the movie as Iron Man's did.

LOL! Is what it is dude, just bustin b@lls. Yeah I went to high school with people who only knew the Justice League from the cartoons. But now that Im in college its a whole new world, I can actually hold a conversation with people who know what their talking about lol. Cant belive they offer a Graphic Novel class at my school. Totally worth while and opened up the mind to so many more genres and styles.

I've gotta side with frogsplash46 on this one. No one knew who Iron Man was before the movie came out. And none of the cartoons that featured him were really that popular. But hey... I don't see this as a bad thing. In fact, I say kudos to Marvel for turning an unknown into the hottest superhero in recent years.

BatmanDTW
BatmanDTW - 4/14/2011, 6:47 PM
@dynamo no way. wayne enterprises makes all kinds of different things all around the world. stark industries just makes weapons.

but i was actually meaning that iron man's just a cheap knock off of batman. never been a fan of the character. robert downey jr breathed some new life into him, but he's still pretty lame.
DudeGuy
DudeGuy - 4/14/2011, 6:48 PM
@ Dynamo forgot all about that one lol

Darkmatter- haha yeah obvioulsy Watchmen. We also read Maus (great read), Fun Home (meh, depressing as hell) and we are doing 'Books of Magic' right now. That ones not bad. We got to pick a graphic novel of our choice and do a presentation so I did Neil Gaimans 'The Last Temptation' that was a great read. IF your an Alice Cooper fan youll like it even more.

All you guys are making it sound like these characters are obscure unrecognizable superheros who the general public has never even heard of.
Green Lantern might have been around longer and has had more TV appearances, but the Iron Man movies have made Iron Man into a household name.
Regardless of what your stats or sales figures say, Iron Man's popularity has peaked in recent years within the general public as a result of the movies, just as Green Lantern is bound to do the same within the coming months.
An important thing to note about comics sales is that how well a characters comic is currently performing within the comics-literate world has very little to do with how much of the general public has actually even heard of them.
And now that they both have mainstream summer blockbusters that are being promoted out the ass, ON TOP OF their DECADES of existing, the ONLY people who won't know who GL and IM are, must be complete idiots when it comes to American Pop Culture, and in my opinion don't merit mentioning on this forum.

"but i was actually meaning that iron man's just a cheap knock off of batman."

Just like how Batman is a cheap knock-off of Zorro?

See what I did there?
BatmanDTW
BatmanDTW - 4/14/2011, 7:04 PM
@indoraptor12 oh you're right, bc he uses a sword, has a mexican accent, rides a horse, robs the poor, and all that right? haha there's a difference between taking inspiration from a character, and completely ripping one off. so yeah, stfu. see what i did there? lolz
Dynamo
Dynamo - 4/14/2011, 7:09 PM
@indoraptor

If anything, he was a knockoff of the shadow. Batman has more in common with him than he does with Iron Man.

@earzmundo i don't think that's really fair. some fanboys will still see it. it's not marvel fanboys that hate it, it's douchebag trolls. but they'll still go see it anyways. haha

BatmanDTW - 4/14/2011, 7:12 PM
@dynamo i'm not seeing the resemblance. just a cape. haha. seems like he kinda influenced the gray ghost from BTAS though.
BatmanDTW
BatmanDTW - 4/14/2011, 7:14 PM
@darkmatter two rich guys, both lost their parents, created all of their own gadgets, both have butlers to give deep advice, similar villians, etc. so no, luthor and osborn wouldn't be ripoffs.

all i see you do is [frick]ing troll, dude. you're already waaay below "my level of perception", retard.
SmokinIndo
SmokinIndo - 4/14/2011, 7:15 PM
@BatmanDTW

Zorro is also a filthy rich playboy, dresses in all black, wears a cape, has a butler named Bernardo to give him advice, and keeps his stuff in a secret lair inside a cave underneath his mansion. Now tell me again why Iron Man is a rip-off of Batman while Bats merely "took inspiration" from Zorro? Because Bats and Zorro have a lot more in common than Bats and Iron Man.
