Ryan Reynolds is Green Lantern!

Reynolds is the only actor still under option to play Hal Jordan in the upcoming GREEN LANTERN movie.

Ryan Reynolds (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) will play the title role in the upcoming live-action comic-to-movie adaptation from DC Comics and Warner Bros., Green Lantern. According to Variety, Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) and Jared Leto (Fight Club) were under option to play Green Lantern as well, but only Reynolds' option was extended, effectively making him the "last man standing" in the casting selection process.

Other actors recently rumored to have been up for the role include Justin Timberlake (Alpha Dog) and Nathan Fillion (Serenity), who was recently the subject of a popular fan-made Green Lantern trailer that used his likeness.

Reynolds is not a stranger to comic book adaptations. He has played two characters from Marvel Comics--vampire hunter Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity and, more recently, Wade Wilson/Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine--and was often rumored to be interested in playing Wally West/The Flash, another DC Comics character and the teammate of Green Lantern in the Justice League of America.

There is no word how, if at all, this will affect the proposed X-Men Origins: Wolverine spin-off film about Deadpool that Fox was developing for Reynolds, although AICN says its a sure bet since principal photography should begin this January in Australia.

i say reynolds is an ok pick.

for a person to play the flash, i would want it to be wally west, not barry allen, but for an actor to play him, theirs alot of people like worthington, chris evans......... maybe...., idk theirs alot

Y'all know Green Lantern is going to be something (literally) out of this world! Let's just hope they get Eddie Vedder to do the soundtrack!!! Do you know what his folk melded with some (80's space symphony synth)could do for this movie?! I think he should watch some Fifth Element, (the '09) Star Trek, Peggy Sue Got Married and blend all those elements into a Goonies style movie!!!!!

Can they really do that? I mean putting up Reynolds for GL after he became deadpool? I got you, teabag, I don't see how this movie could work with Reynolds in it, unless Hal Jordan was a dude who stayed in college for 7 years setting up frat parties for geeks and fell for Tara Reid.

Man, I've been waiting for this since I was a kid. I sure hope they do it right. Don't get old folks , it ain't fun! I dreamed of being Hal growing up in the 70's and I even made my own ring in shop class! It's gone now so I guess I'll have to replace it. "In brightest day, in darkest night............" You know the rest!

Well, at least DC finally put Reynolds in something. The whole "is there gonna be a Flash movie, or not" was getting old. Reynolds should nail this role is if he plays it as good as he played Deadpool. Any news on Sinestro?
StrangeCosmic
StrangeCosmic - 7/20/2009, 12:48 PM
Hugo Weaving for Sinestro anyone?

isnt too bad with ryan in it lol
Gabe
Gabe - 7/27/2009, 7:25 PM
For some reason, I think he should play Kyle Rayner. Based on his performances in Wolverine and The Proposal, he feels more suited towards that role. Hal is stoic and has seen a lot of combat. Kyle is an artist and much younger. I think that's more appropriate.

To all the overreacting fans who are not ok with Ryan being cast:

oh people leave Ryan alone. This is just how you reacted when Heath Ledger got cast as the Joker. You instantly think he'll do a terrible job, and Heath did an amazing job. Just accept that Ryan got cast and get over it. So he played Deadpool, that was a Marvel character The Green lantern is a DC character. Just be happy that Justin Timberlake didn't get cast.

Ps: Why is it that whenever the guy you like isn't cast you go all crazy and start ranting on how the cast actor will suck?
