Director Martin Campbell has recently revealed to IGN that Sinestro will be played by none other then Mark Strong, the main villain in 'Sherlock Holmes'. And I thought that Jackie Earle Haley was a lock? Oh well, guess not.
Martin answered a few Sinestro plot point questions:
"He is very much like in the origin version of the comic," said the director. "Yes, Sinestro is a mentor, but Tomar-Re becomes a mentor in some ways, and Sinestro goes over to the dark side."
Cool, sounds like they are at least trying to stick to the source material. It's to bad that Jackie Earle Haley doesnt get the 'Sinestro' opportunity. I think he looks a tad more like Sinestro then Mark Strong. What are you going to do?
Sounds like Hector Hammond will be the films main villain according to Martin Campbell, also Green Lantern will be an origin story which is no big surprise. If Hollywood has an opportunity to deliver an origin story you can bet they'll do it. Campbell has already confirmed that characters such as Abin Sur and Carol Ferris will appear in Green Lantern. Martin has also confirmed that cameo's from Superman and Batman will not happen in 'Green Lantern.'
Which stinks. Martin is too worried that having a Superman or a Batman cameo would take the focus away from Hal and people would partially judge the movie by those characters appearances. Bad move. Look what Marvel is doing and the successful buzz that a cameo receives. It's huge news and DC is just not jumping on board with the cameo idea. Why not?
What say you ComicBookMovie fans? Is this the best choice? Or did the 'Green Lantern' casting folks screw the pooch on this one? Vote now or sound off below!!! Green Lantern fly's into theaters June 17, 2011.
