Tyrese Gibson Confirms Meeting With Warner Bros. For Potential GREEN LANTERN CORPS Role

It might have been fan art that initiated Tyrese Gibson's interest in the reboot of Green Lantern over at Warner Bros., but the Furious 7 star has now confirmed that he actually took the initiative and met with the studio for a potential role. Check it out after the jump!

Before it was announced that the newly-titled Green Lantern Corps movie will be exploring multiple human Green Lanterns, singer/actor Tyrese Gibson had been campaigning for a role in the 2020 reboot of Ryan Reynolds' 2011 flop. While the star of the Transformers and Fast and the Furious franchises has hinted that he has met with Warner Bros. about potentially playing John Stewart, Gibson has now confirmed so during an interview with Collider for the Furious 7 Blu-ray release.

“Well I was innocent from the beginning,” said Tyrese Gibson before recalling how his interest in Green Lantern began. “I was at home eating a bowl of Lucky Charms in my drawers, my ugly feet were out, and I got about six direct messages on Instagram with photos of me as the Green Lantern. This particular fan who did this fan art said that there was a community of people that had been talking for like a month and a half about who they think would be the best Green Lantern and they all picked me. I said to them, ‘I took the oath, and I am going to commit myself to this process of seeing what’s possible.’” He continued, “I’ve already had a couple of meetings at Warner Bros., so we’ll see what happens. I do believe that there needs to be more black superheroes out there, but that’s not even my motivation. I think I would be the best Green Lantern and based on my fans and supporters that spent around $6 billion in box office receipts, I feel like there’s a fanbase of fans out there waiting to see me put on this green suit and do my thing. So I would love to confirm something today but I can’t. We’ll just keep following up.”

Anyhow, with Chris Pine all but confirmed to play Hal Jordan, Green Lantern Corps is currently scheduled for release on June 19, 2020. The Emerald Knight(s) may also appear in the two-part Justice League on November 17, 2017, and June 14, 2019, respectively. What do you think?

This community must be a small inbreed community if they thin Tyrese should be Lantern.

Get Idris Elba for John Stewart. His Marvel contract will be done soon after Thor 3 so he can be Green Lantern.

And get Jake Gyllenhaal for Hal Jordan. [frick] Captain Kirk. If you think Chris Pine would be a better pick for Hal then Jake, you need to look at yourself in the mirror. If Jake was Hal, shit I'd go see a Hal Jordan Green Lantern movie and be cool with it not including John Stewart. That's how much I like Jake for Hal.

A vote for Tyrese as a leading man is a vote for stupidity.

Tyreese has some good roles outside of the two major major franchises he's been in, and he pisses off the fans who hated Ben Affleck, Jesse Eisenberg, Gal Gadot, Will Smith, Heath Ledger, Jai Courtney, etc. I'm all for Tyreese

If I could walk up to him on the street and ask him for 20 non-corps GL villains and 20 GL corps members off the top of his head and he could actually do it, I'd support him. But right now the extent of his campaign seems like "I'm black. Can I play a black superhero?" The lack of actual passion is what really sours me, not even counting his lack of acting talent.
