Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film opens August 1, 2014.

i cant wait for this movie and i have a feeling that that the orb is a time gem. i think that because the actress who plays star lords mother said she got to work with chris pratt and that would only make sense if star lord goes back to the 80s before he left and she gets killed...also apparently a few news sources have said that they have talked to people at marvel and they have said that guardians is the best script they have ever had and hopefully james gunn can translate to screen well.

Cosmic Cube = Space
Aether = Power
[?] Orb = Time

Stones left: Reality, Mind, Soul.

Have we had confirmation about what gems have already been revealed? I assume the aether in TDW was the power gem, but do we know what the cube and loki's staff are?

I think the popular theory is that Quill wants the Time Stone so that he can go back and see (or even save) his mother before her death.

@DylansMyDog: Loki's staff isn't a stone. It was just a weapon powered by the Tesseract.

In answer to your question, Aether is confirmed as Power, Tesseract (Cosmic Cube) is Space, and the Orb (in the picture above) is Time.

Out of all the movies coming out this summer, this is the one I want to see the most! In a summer that seems like it's crowded with reboots and sequels, it'll be nice to have something more fresh and new!!

Lokis staff has the Mind Gem professor. Its why the avengers and hulk were Mind f'd, and can explain mind control in the one CATWS credit scene.

rockerdude- agree 100 percent, also i listen to the guys on screenrant and they said that back in comic con 2012, they met with a couple of their sources at marvel and they said that Cap 2 was the best script they had ever had BUT when they met them again at comic con 2013, they said that cap 2 is great but once james gunn rewrote the script for guardians, it is now the best script they have ever had, also devin faraci from badass digest said that he met wit a guy who works at marvel and in a moment of NO B.S. , the guy said that guardians is the bets script they have ever had and i hope that turns out to be true

The only one that's actually been confirmed is the Tesseract as the Space stone.
Aether is likely power.
Loki's staff is almost certainly the Mind gem, due to its abilities and the fact it's being brought back into the fold with AoU (Although I reckon that's a retcon, as it doesn't make much sense for Thanos to give Loki one of the infinity gems.)
Orb could be time, but equally could be one of the others.

Lol @People saying this will either be Marvel's Star Wars or Green Lantern.

There's absolutely no gray are with you. Either its amazing or it sucks?? huh?
Makes no sense. It should be a fun movie regardless.

@willyburz: Yeah, I've heard that theory before and it is possible (it's the right color and Loki has wielded it in the comics). But would Thanos really give him an Infinity Stone just like that? Seems like quite a risk...

I have a feeling that this is not one of the actually infinity stones/gems. I think its a diversion. It seems odd that they would be showing it in so many stills and in the trailers so quick. I think the real one may be hidden somewhere. Just a thought.

Mind or Reality Gem could possibly be in Doctor Stange, while the Soul Gem may be in GotG 2 (Adam Warlock).
