We know Ego was willing to pull out all the stops to win his son over in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and in this first deleted scene from the upcoming home release we see that the duplicitous Living Planet actually unveiled an entire monument to Quill's ego (no pun) at one point in the film.

As the memorial is revealed, Star-Lord is understandably impressed. His teammates? Not so much.

Here's what director James Gunn has to say to Yahoo! about the scene:

“[Peter Quill] sort of looks like this big muscular Frank Frazetta heroic character, and Groot looks kind of like a piece of broccoli, and they somehow confused Drax and Rocket so Drax is a tiny little thing standing on his arm, and Gamora is a very buxom character holding on and looking up lovingly at Peter Quill, holding onto his leg. So they’re not as thrilled with it as Quill is.”

Check out the deleted sequence below, and let us know what you think. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits Digital Aug. 8 and Blu-ray Aug. 22.

Pretty funny scene. But Vol. 2 definitely suffered from too many overlong gags, and so it's probably good they cut this.

Glad it didn't make it. Already had way too many jokes.

@hopeandfear30 - Especially too many dud jokes around that particular area. Like the godforsaken "Do you have a penis?" joke. Makes me shudder at the thought of how dead the audience was during that moment.

Was looking forward to this deleted scene ever since Gunn mentioned it. Wish it was fully rendered and animated, or at least the statue was.

Maybe if the joke of the scene was explained a little more it would've stayed in. Gunn said it's messed up because of miscommunication by word of mouth through the galaxy but it isn't really mentioned here.
