Kevin Feige Updates On GUARDIANS: VOL 2, ‘Thanos,’ SPIDER-MAN And THOR: RAGNAROK

Will Thor: Ragnarok be spending less screen time on Earth? And will Thanos really be the main villain of the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel? Kevin Feige has those answers after the jump.

Marvel Studios’ third phase of movies will kick off next year with Captain America: Civil War and continue with Doctor Strange, but the following year will see Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 and Thor: Ragnarok showcase the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as with the new Spider-Man film. And now Kevin Feige has offered Empire magazine some details on those 2017 comic book movies.

About the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, which starts shooting in February, Feige reassures that we can expect the roster to expand. “There've been many different incarnations of the Guardians over the years in the comics and we'll catch a glimpse of additions over the course of the movie,” he said. The Marvel producer failed to reveal the villain of Volume 2, but confirmed we won’t see a certain mad titan. “I wouldn't look too hard in that movie for Thanos,” he said, before reassuring that we’ll eventually see the supervillain get off his ass. “The next time we see Thanos he will not be messing around. It will be, 'Oh, that's why they've been teasing this villain for five years!”

Regarding the new Spider-Man reboot, which hits theaters just a couple months after Guardians, Kevin Feige explained that a “smaller scale is all relative.” He continued, “It's going to be as big and spectacular a Spider-Man film as has ever been made. But it's a Peter Parker story and has more opportunity to be focused on the story of a 15-year-old kid going to high school.”

Kevin Feige then touched on Thor: Ragnarok and implied that, despite its subtitle, fans shouldn’t just assume the threequel will be about the Norse apocalyptic end of the world. “I don't think people will read into that title alone [regarding] what the movie's going to be,” he said. “It's going to be, perhaps, as totally different from the two prior Thor movies as Winter Soldier was from the first Captain America. We want to take it to new places, we've got new characters that will show how big we're swinging on this. And we have a Hulk.” Speaking of new places, the Marvel Studios head honcho then confirmed something that Thor fans have long desired: “The film takes place within the cosmos primarily which is to say, frankly, very little Earth.” What do you think?

WakandasSoul- i hope they do a good job with thanos but i can see why he's not like azula as a constant presence, it's because he's just to powerful. hopefully the russos can nail him in infinity wars and i think he should appear in at least 1 more film which before this i would have said Thor ragnarok or GOTG2. im not hugely happy with the idea of him replacing surtur but i do like the idea of him destroying asgard and killing loki.

I theorized that Thanos would be in Thor Ragnarok. Going off many fan theories that Loki is in fact still working for Thanos and him being imprisoned and subsequently taking Odin's place was all part of Thanos plan. Ragnarok will deal with Thor and Hulk dealing with some threat Loki throws his way and subsequently freeing Odin. When they go to confront Loki he has already allowed Thanos access to Asgard. Thor and probably Hulk attack Thanos but Thanos tosses them like children. Showing he is that powerful of a threat that two of the most powerful Avengers are no match for him. Odin can then jump in and show off his power. He can put up an actual fight with all his Odinforce and his spear Gungnir fighting Thanos back. In the end though it is not enough to defeat Thanos and he kills Odin who dies in Thor's arms to show off all his might. Then he takes the Tesseract with Loki destroying Asgard be it with his own power or the Orb from GOTG. It would be a great moment because we get an amazing send off to Odin but we also see just how powerful Thanos is. Killing the Allfather and destroying a familiar place for movie goers over the three Thor movies. Here is my original editorial I wrote last year. I will be super excited if it turns out this way.

“The film takes place within the cosmos primarily which is to say, frankly, very little Earth.”

Gooooooooood. I keep saying this, and I will KEEP saying it until the film's release, Thor: Ragnarok has the potential to be in the top 3 of the best of what the MCU has to offer. And I think Thanos should replace Surtur in the movie mainly because I would like him to be saved for Thor 4 to be properly used(plus if they don't introduce Beta Ray Bill here, it would be a perfect place to insert him in Thor 4 considering his connections to Surtur), he's just the "muscle" in the Ragnarok, from my understanding Loki is once again the main antagonist in the story. And considering Thanos is still sort of in the teasing stage(though they should increase his number of appearances and screentime to give that slowburn to Infinity War) it would be a good way to link up his relationship with Loki that was established offscreen and see him ACTUALLY retrieve an Infinity Stone himself. I have such a good gut feeling with this movie, I pray it pulls through by the time it is released.

"Two movies that bested the Avengers box office recently, Jurassic World and (eventually) Star Wars TFA, were CGI-fest"
and both of them also had a huge amount of nostalgia to bring audiences in
