James Gunn On Why 'Baby Groot' Didn't Want To Get Caught By Drax At The End Of GOTG

Remember that adorable dancing Baby Groot scene at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy? If you do, you should also remember that Baby Groot stopped dancing once Drax the Destroyer looked his way. Why was this done? Hit the jump to find out!

By NightWatcher - Mar 14, 2015 07:03 AM EST

During his appearance on Doug Loves Movies, James Gunn reveals that there was a cut scene in Guardians of the Galaxy that would have made the Baby Groot-Drax end scene much clearer.“There was actually a scene that we cut from the movie where big Groot was dancing to 'Livin’ Thing' by ELO.” Drax wasn't impressed, “And it wasn't such an elaborate dance. It was more that he was just moving up and down like this, and Drax was dismissive and gave him this look like he was a loser when he did that.” This would explain why Drax gave Baby Groot the “death stare” once he thought he saw him move. Gunn then jokes that the first thing Drax the Destroyer would do if he was the Mayor of a town would be to outlaw dancing. “Dancing is ludicrous to Drax. I don’t think he understands it. If Drax owned a town, if he was a mayor, the first law would be no dancing.” He then continues, "But yeah, so at the end of the movie, little baby Groot didn't want to get caught dancing, because he would kill him.” Luckily, Drax didn’t lose his temper at the “dance off” scene causing that whole plan to fail. Anyhow, even though Drax doesn't like dancing, I’m sure Baby Groot's dance is something that you can’t get enough of! Sound off below with your thoughts!

Movie was Excellent but I had a few problems like Drax being weak. He got his ass handed to him by a villains that was defeated by a dance. He is supposed to have a power to kill Thanos, but Ronan didn't have a problem to handle him.

@LubedUp "Also,, i like this but i hope Marvel don't do anymore meaningless post credits (GOTG and IM3) and do exciting ones that nod towards new movies and characters (Avengers, IM2 etc)"

You know, Marvel doesn't have to any post-credit scenes period.

Drax was also drunk, angry, and arrogant when he was fighting Ronan, Ronan had the upper hand for more than one reason....

Also, Ronan was not defeated by a dance, he was distracted and it totally worked for the movie. It was actually the exact opposite of the Ronan vs Drax fight.

Ronan was arrogant and overpowered and he felt unstoppable. Quill acted like a Jester and the GOTG outsmarted Ronan and took the stone. Then, the power stone defeated Ronan.

You have to be a superdouchebag not to enjoy this movie.. or a DC butthurt bitch. Or both. GoTG [frick]ing rocked on so many levels. My favorite CBM EVER! AoU has a battle for my number one spot.

So they would need Kevin Bacon to save them just like in Footloose.

Lol, I'm seriously getting tired of hating the dancing in this film. Here's hoping hat they give their villains more room to grow in the sequel. Seeing how early Gunn started writing the sequel (before guardians was even released) leads me to assume that we'll still see similar elements. No biggie, just give us more baddies and make them weighty characters.

I kind of understood that when I saw it the first time.

Drax was also looking around to see if anyone else was dancing.

Yeah, sorry, I very rarely ever call people names, but in all seriousness - everyone who goes on and on about the "defeated by dance" BS is either an idiot or wants to appear like one for some odd reason.

@REALDC

But...Howard the Duck had a cameo at the end of the film. The entire film didn't revolve around the character as well. Man of Steel was a more mature film than guardians and it's something the public has been seeing over the past 30-40 years. Guardians had NO worthy competition within its box office. Can't say the same for Man of Steel? Plus, you have to consider that Guardians was basically the space Avengers. lol More heroes in most of these lighthearted films will draw in more people willing to see it. It's reasons like these why I don't necessarily believe AOU will do as great as its Predecessor. Things are darker this go around and it possibly could damage its box office. Or in ouod be terribly wrong and it can actually help aid it due to the approach that they gave the first film where it would be accepted by all audiences regardless of their age.

Btw, Zod > Ronan.

...bring it.
