Dolph Lundgren Thinks Channing Tatum Or Chris Hemsworth Would Make A Good HE-MAN

Dolph Lundgren had the honor of being the first live-action He-Man in 1987's Masters of the Universe, and when asked which young actor could fill his loincloth he initially thought of Magic Mike's Channing Tatum.

While promoting The Expendables 2 Dolph Lundgren was interviewed by the Huffington Post and asked if there were any young actors that he thought would be a good fit for the role of He-Man.

It came out this week that there might be a new "Masters of the Universe" movie. Who would you pick to take over as He-Man?
Well, let's see. You need somebody who's well built and charming, I suppose. And he can deliver a couple of lines of dialogue, I guess more than I had [laughs]. I mean, Channing Tatum? I don't know. I don't know that many young actors. But he's got a pretty good body. He's got a naturally athletic body which you need, unless you make the guy wear a suit, like Batman. But if you need real muscles, you need somebody who is built.

What about Chris Hemsworth?
Yeah! That's a good idea. That's a cool idea, yeah.

So you're on board?
I'm on board. I second that opinion.

Channing Tatum doesn't seem like such an odd choice seeing as though director Jon M. Chu is said to be in final negotiations to helm the new Masters of the Universe. Chu worked with Tatum on his most recent film, G.I. Joe: Retaliation. While Chris Hemsworth seems like a perfect choice for He-Man, but that's because we've already seen him in a similar role as Thor in two Marvel films, the last being The Avengers.

Alexander Skarsgard is my top pick. Hemsworth would be great, but He-Man is too similar to Thor.

Chris Hemsworth still has some Thor and Avengers sequels and maybe more. I could see Channing Tatum if they don't have him look like a male stripper, which is ironic considering Tatum was in Magic Mike which, in that case, would make it okay

I would agree that Chris Hemsworth would be great choice, but since he's Thor, it just seems kind of redundant. As for Channing Tatum, that doesn't sound like a bad idea. ;D

At least Hemsworth can act. Tatum's good for comedies (21 Jump St) but don't ask him to take on anything remotely serious. I've never actually seen the original He Man movie, so I have no idea how serious it was supposed to be.

Let's face it, all dolph heard was hemsworth and probably thought it was his co star... Or he heard Chris and couldn't remember which was which..

As far as getting someone who looks the part of He-Man, you couldn't get much better than Dolph. But as far as acting goes, you couldn't do much worse... except for maybe Tatum, lol.

My pick is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister on Game of Thrones.

Why does everyone LOVE Alexander Skaarsgard? I think he's a crappy actor who only gets jobs because of his father's name, and nothing special to look at either. Chris would be good for the part, but it would be too similar to Thor. I like He-Man, but I think it's an IP that just doesn't work well on film. Like TMNT.

Channing, no. Hemsworth, yes! That might not work out though being he played Thor already.

My votes for Charlie Hunnam. He is great in Sons of Anarchy and he was able to pull the lead in Del toros next flick. I would put a picture up of the dude but I don't know how.

I like the Nikolaj Caster-Waldau pick. Skarsgard is much too skinny and would look disproportionate if he added more muscle tone. He's got more of a swimmer's pysique. Nikolaj on the other hand could pull off the look.

I could get on board with the Idris Elba selection as well, simply because the dude needs a headlining role and He-Man isn't that iconic where you need to be consistent.
RaMan
RaMan - 8/16/2012, 9:27 PM
The hero Thundarr, a muscular warrior, was meant to be more to the comic book characters Thor and Conan The Barbarian. Thundarr and his companions Princess Ariel, a formidable young sorceress, and the Wookiee-like Ookla the Mok traveled the world on horseback, battling evil wizards who combine magical spells with technologies from the pre-catastrophe world.

Sometimes I beleive him, and sometimes I don't. But he is getting there. Hopefully by Avengers 2 he'll own as Thor!

People please! Don't encourage Hollywood! No Tatum, no Hemsworth...no body period. For all that is holy, the world does not need another He-Man movie.

Who the hell are these people? These people who just sit back and say, 'Transformers worked...so let's do He-Man!' Where are they hiring? I'd like to be paid fat checks for coming up with half assed ideas for old campy franchises to bring to a movie theater.
