Big Red just won't stay down for the count!

Despite 2019's Hellboy reboot starring Stranger Things and Black Widow's David Harbour tanking at the box office, it looks like Millennium Media has decided to take another crack at adapting Mike Mignola's acclaimed comic series with yet another live-action adaptation.

Discussing Film has heard that a new Hellboy film is already in active development, with Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and Crank co-director Brian Taylor signed on to helm.

The project's working title is "Hellboy: The Crooked Man," which may give us a pretty good indication of what to expect from the plot.

The 3-issue Crooked Man miniseries was a period adventure set in 1956 which saw Hellboy attempt to retrieve a man named Tom's soul from a powerful demon deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. Though this movie probably won't be a direct adaptation, we'd be surprised if it didn't take at least some influence from the story.

Production is expected to begin this April in Bulgaria, where Millennium's Red Sonja reboot is currently filming.

Though this new Hellboy movie has yet to be officially announced, the trades are sure to weigh in soon if this info is accurate.

We're sure many fans will be disappointed that Guillermo Del Toro and Ron Perlman aren't involved, but we can only hope that this latest take does Mignola's comic and character justice.

The GDT Hellboy movies were great. Unless this is a direct sequel to those with the same cast, I don’t have faith.

At this point just finish off a trilogy with Perlman.

Ung-An-Rama! Already?! Only four years after the shitty one came out?! I love Hellboy and all but I think you gotta wait some more before you reboot.

Wow, I completely forgot that the 2019 film was even released. I'm a huge fan of the Del Toro films, but I'm not expecting the David Harbour version to be in the same circle of hell. Has anyone even seen it and is it at least entertaining?

@TheRose - I actually rewatched it recently and it is entertaining enough. Milla Jovoviaviahhchxxex's villain is very cheesy, but has some good humor & David Harbour does a fine job. Worth a look if you're bored!

@SouthernNeo - Thanks for the analysis. It seems like a fun Weekend afternoon watch. Even if it's not good, at least I can entertain myself with complaining about how the Del Toro films are better, haha. I'll check it out sometime.

@TheRose - Is it good? No. Will it entertain you if bad movies entertain you? Yes.

They tried it. It failed. They tried it again and it failed again. Clearly the general audience isnt interested.

If Legendary is so desperate to make this a thing despite THREE commercial bombs, they should go and beg Del Toro to come back (for a reboot, a third movie is imposible), at least his movies were good.

Reeks of desperation. Everyone's trying to get in on that sweet franchise money.

I would honestly love to see other Dark Horse properties besides Hellboy to get the big screen treatment. The Goon, Black Hammer, Nocturnals, Count Crowley, a more accurate adaptation of The Mask, there's so much shit you can do that I'm surprised Hollywood is passing up on. The Umbrella Academy is super successful so there's no excuse to try out other Dark Horse characters for live-action.

@FilmGuy7878 - I believe Black Hammer was supposed to become its own cinematic universe once, if I recall correctly.

The Hellboy universe is very rich and could be a great IP if adapted properly by a competent team of people who understood what makes the characters that make that universe so unique... But Millenium proved not to be that people.

I truly wish someone like Mike Flanagan or Vince Gilligan were interested into making the B.P.R.D. a streaming series for a wealthy straming service and subsequents Hellboy movies where placed in between seasons.

@JayBarrick - Timo Vuorensola for Lobster Johnson. It could be a tribute to the B-movies.

“with Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and Crank co-director “

Give it up. Go the animated route and do a mature animation universe at this point.

Don't trust the director, but I'm cool with taking another crack at it. Unpopular opinion, but I like the David Harbour's Hellboy and him in the role. They could try and make a live-action Blood and Iron adaptation. Not entirely sure why people hate reboots.
