It looks like this year's Resident Evil: The Final Chapter really was the last movie in that particular series - however, the franchise is still set to continue.

Variety reports that the first of 6 Resident Evil reboots are in the works at Constatin Films and Screen Gems. Apparently these new movies won't have anything to do with the previous Milla Jovovich-lead pictures, and will feature an entirely new cast. Although a director has yet to be announced, Deadline adds that Aquaman's James Wan will produce, while his old Mortal Kombat collaborator Greg Russo has been hired to write the script.

No plot details are available yet. but fans will no doubt be hoping that these new movies stick a little closer to the stories outlined in the beloved video game series.

Um. Cool? I'll be more intrigued once we find some casting details. Hopefully it follows the story of the games.

@IkeHatesMike - Norman Reedus for Leon Kennedy

@azimiq - That's like the worst casting ever... unless Leon is supposed to be a 50 year zombie apocalypse survivor... which is pretty much Reedus' Walking Dead character. But then again, acting is acting.

@IkeHatesMike - Yeah, after Assassin's Creed, I'm waiting for the reviews. We as a community need to keep in mind that video game movies have never worked. I mean, it's always possible, but you can't ignore the track record. Maybe it's just too difficult to adapt.

@Origame - For more than a decade (since the first Halo maybe?), the best video games have essentially been interactive movies. And they become more detailed, involved and immersive every year. Try and fit 50+hours of story and character development and lore into a 2-hour movie. It just doesn't work.

@TomSolo - Exactly.

I, for Wan, would like more horror than action.

Well this just got me interested. He'll definitely bring out the horror aspect more.
I'm just praying he sticks closer to the original game's story / characters.

good news. i've enjoyed Resident Evil movies (although first is medicore and Resident Evil: Retribution was really bad and boring). waiting for that Mortal Kombat movie that Wan is also producing. i hope they will take the story of RE2 game and bring it to the big screen. but don't bring back that guy who played Leon in previous movie. please.

God damnit, get him to direct it! This series is NOT an action series like the terrible movies make it out to be. This is horror and should get that treatment :/

Worry about the casting of Chris Redfield, Jill and Wesker before Leon Kennedy. He won't show up till the sequel if they follow the games (which i hope they do).
