CASTLE ROCK Cancelled By Hulu After Two Seasons On The Streaming Service

Castle Rock, a series inspired by the work of prolific author Stephen King, has been cancelled after two seasons on Hulu, but it's not all bad news for fans of the author's work on the small screen!

TV Line confirms that there will be no third season of Castle Rock as the series has been cancelled after two seasons on Hulu. A specific reason for the show being axed hasn't been revealed, but it's almost certainly a combination of low viewership and cost cutting as a result of COVID.

Set in Castle Rock, Maine, the series took inspiration from Stephen King's work, combining characters and locations from his novels to create new stories. Season one followed a death row attorney to investigate the identity of a mysterious man who was being kept in the bowels of Shawshank State Prison.

In season two, Lizzy Caplan played a younger version of Misery's Annie Wilkes, for an origin story of sorts for that deranged horror film character. There was even a tease at the end of season one that a future batch of episodes might delve further into the mysteries of the Overlook Hotel.

It's not all bad news for fans of King's work, though.

The Stand is coming to CBS All Access, while The Outsider is getting a second season at HBO. Castle Rock producer J.J. Abrams is still developing a spinoff of The Shining for HBO Max too.

I thought season 1 was a big letdown but loved season 2 simply because Lizzy Caplan was incredible as Annie Wilkes. The plot was crap like the first season, but the acting raised it up.

balls! This kinda sucks! I actually really liked this show. I liked the weird exploration into the Stephen King Universe that was going on.

Also, what will the second season of the Outsider be about?!

Hulu and Horror haven't mixed well at all.

Not much of a loss honestly. Like most of King's novels, the finale to both seasons was AWFUL and ruined the entire season that preceded them. Lizzy Caplan was the best thing to happen to the entire series, that would've been utterly forgettable otherwise.
