In 1990 there were a tonne of amazing movies hitting cinemas however few can say they had a cast as bright, as stellar and as hot as Flatliners. Starring then hot property Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts, Oliver Platt and the not so Alec Baldwin, Baldwin, William Baldwin, Flatliners was sure to draw in plenty of young teens and adults looking for a thrill. We decided to review Flatliners in anticipation of the soon to be released remake/sequel (it's a tad confusing with this one) how does it hold up some 27 years later?
We're huge fans of the time period and many of the actors in this film and all of them bring their A game and are only let down by some weak dialogue (even for the time) and the occasional drab moment. Flatliners at the time was undoubtedly a horror movie. edgy, tense and lots of potential jump scares it was clearly out to keep you from getting comfortable. Just like the recent remake of IT (which we loved!) Flatliners now feels less like a horror movie and more like a thriller though we wouldn't consider that a bad thing.
Believe it or not, this is actually a Joel Schumacher film. WTF!? Turns out there was a time when he wasn't pissing on The Dark Knight and was actually turning out some good films. It's only in rewatching this cult classic that we began to notice several Schumacher-isims. He loves himself a dakr, moody setting thats very gothic in design with plenty of fire, a constant breeze and steam billowing out of every pipe, hole and opening you can think of, even inside! This all works nicely for the film but it's one of those things you can't not see once you notice it.
One a whole, Flatliners 1990 was an excellent and tense journey that is meant to leave you asking questions such as; where do we go when we die? And is there an afterlife? A cult classic that still bodes well today, we highly recommend watching it if you haven't already.

RECASTS- This is where I take a new release movie and shift its release date by a decade or two and RECAST the movie with actors from that time.I also talk a bit about how I think the film would have looked and felt during that era and discuss who might have directed the movie and why.
5 THINGS STILL GREAT ABOUT- This is a new segment looking back at videos game of old and instead of reviewing them and pulling them apart for their dated graphics and game play, instead I look at what is STILL GREAT about the game.
