Harold Ramis Says We Will Have Ghostbusters 3 For 2011

Who you gonna call? Well, if its for a Ghostbusters 3 rumor, everyone! The cast and crew have been whipping false/unconfirmed news at us for ages. But now Harold Ramis has promised us a new movie by 2011...

It looks like this thing is going to happen, for better or worse.

In an interview with Heeb, Harold Ramis(Egon Spengler) said that the threequel is going to shoot next Summer for a 2011 release...

"Something’s going to happen. Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future ... GB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011 …"

Until a director is officially attached this will have to join the mountain of rumors for now, but it sounds like we will see this movie at some point. Its possible that Ramis himself could take the reigns, but since his last movie, Year One, tanked, thats probably not likely.

I only watched the first movie on TV today and its still as good as ever, in pretty much every way. Even the slightly dated special effects do hold up surprisingly well. Lets hope that the next movie is more like that..and less like the second one!

This is (hopefully) good news.

I did hear a few rumors on this, which are probably totally false, but sounded interesting. It involved young Oscar being a grown up ghostbuster and Bill Murray's Veinkman (sp?) as a ghost. That could either be really good, or really bad.

Let's hope ror is right and it's more of #1 than #2

Best shit I've heard since Singer returning to the X-Men. My 4 year old daughter absolutely LOVES the first two and watches them as often as she does Strawberry Shortcake. It's funny to see her get creeped out by those movie's still.

As much as I want to see this, I just hope its not just a way for them to segue into Ghostbusters 4 with a new cast. And then 5, 6, 7, 8....

It's nice to see so many of the original cast and the original director lined up for this, but isn't this coming along like 20 years too late? I'll still hold out hope that they've got a really funny script for this. The first Ghostbusters still has the single funniest sight gag I've ever seen.

@Myth well if it's funny to see your daughter get creeped out by the movies then you would find it hilarious to see me watching them lol for some reason the second one freaks me out everytime I watch it especially the weird guy who steals the baby.

And I think this is good news, Ghost Busters is awesome and I think a new movie will be aswell.

Myth, great to see ya back, hope your well.

The 2nd one wasn't shite..it was just lacking in comparison..seriously lacking.

Gun, no way do I want Jack Black anywhere near that movie. Brody I could handle, RDJ of course, but id its a younger team they go for he might be a bit old.

Mmm. I thought about it before. The closest thing to that witty humor Iv seen today are those guys that tend to star in those Judd Apatow movies. Not Rogen..but Id say Paul Rudd would make a good Venkmen type. Maybe that dude from Forgetting Sarah Marshal. I don't think we necessarily need a fat/jolly type just because its obvious to..if we do, I'll take Jonah Hill over Jack Black any day. Jason Swartzman would be a great Egon type. If they need a token black guy what about Donald faison? He's funny as hell on Scrubs, I know he's not movie tested though. Anyway, as long as they try to stick to what made that first movie work so well they should be ok. Mainly, when there was humor, it was FUNNY..and without a farting/humping robot in sight.

either way, I give the studios like 8 seconds before someone suggests Ryan Reynolds is in it.

Oh, there it is, I just felt it in my soul, somewhere some studio exec was just like "you know who could play every character? Ryan Reynolds. With Sam Worthington as slimer"

I do hope that this is a joke. Why can't they just leave the Ghostbusters franchise as an 80's classic? Hollywood tried to do the same with such famous franchises as Indiana Jones and Star Wars, and produced little more than fair sequels/prequels. I'd Prefer that they'd not tarnish our memories of the originals for a sequel with a thin or convoluted story line, shown off special effects, and way too many unneeded stars.

SUPERMARIO...BUT THEYRE OLDER NOW..NEWER ACTORS BRINGS LARGER AUDIENCES..SURE CAMEOS BY THEM..BUT THEY ARE KINDA OLD ..YAKNOW?....

EXPERIMENT..

NOT SAYING THEY SHOULD PUT SEXY FEMALE AS GHOSTBUSTERS..BUT DOES NEWER IMAGES MAKE WIDER AUDIENCES FLOCK OR A BUNCH OF OLDER GENTLEMEN?, WHAT DO U GUYS THINK..?
SraFisher
SraFisher - 12/30/2009, 5:49 AM
NO NO NO if your making a 3rd GB you have to have the regualr 4 guys!!! i dont care how old they are even if they kill them off or they have a heart attack on set you have to have them cause that will piss alot of ppl off if you dont cause well they are THE ghostbusters!
comicb00kguy
comicb00kguy - 12/30/2009, 7:38 AM
Supermario: I'm with you. I'd prefer to see many of the classic 80s films left alone for what they were: 80's films. Those films reflected the times, and just don't work as well set today. You're also right in how CGI has completely replaced story and character development in modern films.

Since they do seem intent on making this film, I'd prefer to see a "passing the torch" story establishing a new group of 'Busters, while leaving plenty of screen time for the originals. Gunsmith has some good casting ideas, especially Jack Black.
