The rumor mill has been spitting out Gremlins 3 rumors since the credits rolled in the second installment.
"I hear they're going to make another one soon," the Gremlins director told Empire Online. "I can see why, it would be stupid to let that title go to waste." Just don't expect a straight sequel. "The actors from the first two are too old to do a proper sequel, so I'm sure when the new one arrives it will be a remake of the original."
I definitely think a remake is a bad idea. No more remakes from Hollywood. They are tasteless and rarely done right. Why not use Billy's son as a starting point and go from there. There, was that really that hard, and they don't even pay me to come up with these fantastic ideas.
Whatever happens, the creator of Gremlins, Chris Columbus won't be on board. "I haven't heard about it," Columbus told Empire. "If they do the monsters with CGI, I don't know if it would be the same. They should go back and do it with puppets again, though at this point I wouldn't be interested in being involved."
I agree puppets with the new motion capture technology they plan on using in the new TMNT would probably be the way to go. Chris Columbus may not want to be a part of Gremlins 3, but I would be willing to bet he sure as hell wants to be kept in the royalty payment loop. Stay tuned for further Gremlin developments..
