Showtime (via FearHQ) has debuted the first trailer for its upcoming small-screen take on John Ajvide Lindqvist's 2004 novel Let The Right One In, which is set to premiere on Sunday, October 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Previously adapted in 2008 by Tomas Alfredson, an American remake titled Let Me In starring Chloe Grace Moretz followed from The Batman director Matt Reeves in 2010.

Based on this teaser, it's safe to assume this latest take on the material will be making some significant changes to the original story.

For starters, the focus seems to have shifted to Bichir's character, who appears to be a far more sympathetic figure than previous adaptations have depicted him as. It looks like he is actually Ellie's father, as opposed to a paedophile who simply assumes the role in order to stay by her side.

The police investigation aspect and search for a cure to the vampire "virus" has also been expanded upon.

Led by Oscar-nominee Demián Bichir (A Better Life), the 10-episode series from Tomorrow Studios (Snowpiercer) also stars Tony winner Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls, Power), Grace Gummer (Mr. Robot), Madison Taylor Baez (Selena: The Series), Kevin Carroll (Snowfall), Ian Foreman (Merry Wish-Mas), Jacob Buster (Colony) and Nick Stahl (Fear the Walking Dead).

"The series centers on Mark (Bichir) and his daughter Eleanor (Baez), whose lives were changed 10 years earlier when she was turned into a vampire. Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the human blood she needs to stay alive.

With these emotionally charged and terrifying ingredients as a starting point, “Let the Right One In” will upend genre expectations, turning a naturalistic lens on human frailty, strength and compassion."

Let the Right One In quickly establishes itself as a thrilling, high-stakes drama that asks the question: How far would you go to save your child from the monsters out there – would you risk becoming a monster yourself?” said Amy Israel, Executive Vice President, Scripted Programming, Showtime Networks Inc.

“Demián Bichir is one of the world’s most dynamic and engrossing actors, and his charisma and vulnerability will surely bring Andrew Hinderaker’s exquisite script to life, guided by Seith Mann’s deft direction. We couldn’t be more excited about the potential of this show.”

Why?! Why does such a great movie/book need to be watered down into whatever this is? I don’t have high hopes when it comes to Showtime.

@JonAwesome - This is Hollywood.

Each adaptation gets weaker. Nothing tops the original 2008 film. No offense to the 2010, but it’s just very derivative. Not feeling the changes they’ve made here.

The Swedish original is great, I think it's Swedish. Anyway haven't seen the American remake, I'm sure it's good.

As for the TV show, stick to the goddamn source material.

Lol people are such whingers. Half of you say ‘stick to the source material!’ while the other half say ‘the anerican remake was too derivative’. They can’t win. If it’s too similar you hate it, if it’s different you hate it. Why don’t yall just watch it or shut the [frick] up and admit you’re just whinging and have no idea what youre talking about yet?

It’s an admired foreign vampire film, not [frick]ing Hamlet. It’s not revered, and a hit and miss won’t ruin anyone’s childhood. They can change it up as much as they want, and should if they wNt it to be interesting.

How many remakes does this movie need?

I haven't read the book, but I've seen both movies, which were damn near equally great, but I actually think the American version is slightly better, although, slightly less like the source material from what I know. The American version isn't really a remake though since both started and ended production around the same time. It's just that the American version got released later. Show looks interesting though, so I might check it out. The guy however wasn't really a pedo. If you take into account Elanor's supposed age, and when she met the dude, she groomed the [frick] out of him. lol

@ThorArms - They left a lot out though. And there is also the subsequent follow up short story.

I loved the OG movie, the american reboot was IMO unnecessary (I still don't get why the hate towards subtitles...) even with a great cast and this series seems to focus on the least appealing bit of the story.
