As far as we know, the Resident Evil movie reboot we heard about last year is still in the works, but a new report indicates that the zombie-inhabited world of Capcom's best-selling video game series is also set for the small-screen treatment.

According to Deadline, Constantin Film is developing a Resident Evil TV series for Netflix which will "expand the universe and deepen the exiting mythology." The show is expected to keep the basic survival-horror premise of the games, and "will explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus."

The project, which is only in the very early stages of development, is currently in search of a showrunner.

STARS Alpha/Bravo Team in the mansion or just forget it ....

@SKetCH - exactly. This is so easy to do. The plot for the first few seasons are already written for them.

Do what walking dead did, where they followed the graphic novel almost page by page. People loved that for some time

@Vigor -

I have some old RE comics that adapted and went into depth of the stories from the first two games pretty damn well and I've always wanted to see it in live action.

For a film, I just hoped for a survival story.. the STARS teams are perfect zombie fodder for the first 2/3 of the story, skip all the puzzles and time-consuming tasks outside of story-pushers, and end up with Chris & Jill discovering Umbrella's secrets and big booms and oohs and ahhs.. basic, but only at the core after you smother it in full-on RE goodness.

... but with the series... gimme some build up and character depths in a first episode with them not even reaching the house til the last shot.. pull out wide to reveal kinda thing. Then spread the deaths out and include all the puzzles.. a booby-trapped mansion filled with zombies covering up an underground facility that holds the t-Virus?! Yea, count me tf in.

Hope it sticks to the game concept. I liked some of the movies but some of them were cheesy.

No way they will have the budget to do this right. The films didn't even have decent effects.

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - The problem is that these producers only want to focus on Umbrella when the original trilogy focuses strictly on the heroes surviving while Umbrella was a backdrop.

And that was what people loved. People loved a cop being chased by a Tyrant. Sure people are interested in where and why the creature was unleashed but the escape and survival aspect was far more entertaining.

Arguably each game lost it's scare factor the moment you reach all of the hidden labs. It goes full sci-fi and takes away from the horror.

as long as they stick to the original video games this could really be good. The movies sucked beyond belief.....apart from Nemesis who looked and acted cool as Fvk !! and the scene in the first one when Alice jumps offa the bed and you see her "nether region" for a split second. aside from that ....they sucked !!!

Fine, as long as they give us the REAL Jill Valentine.

@SonOfAGif - Can you even imagine....if they give the same treatment to RE3 Nemesis?! Oh dear god my soul couldn’t handle that. RE3 is my childhood RE.

Looking forward to facing Mr. X when I get off work today. Nice.

I’ll be happy as long as it’s based on the actual games and not those Milla movies..

Why can't we get a season in the Spencer Mansion with Jill & Chris in a 13 episode arc? Why is it so hard for Capcom to understand what made the original trilogy so iconic.

Steps to make it work:

1. [frick] everything that the movies did. Don't do anything that goes even the slightest into their direction nor do any references towards them.

2. Base it strongly on the original PSone trilogy. Make Jill (<3, if you [frick] her character up, Netflix...), Chris, Barry and Leon, Claire and Ada in later seasons great main characters.

3. Focus on the horror. Don't make it like the movies nor the latter games of the series (5, 6, Operation: Raccoon City &Umbrella Corps.) more action packed. Give us some of the heavy atmosphere and maybe even some of those riddles you had to solve in the games.

4. Make the monsters look good. This could become the hardest one, considering Netflix budget and regarding (besides their general shitty quality) that the movies made them look good.

5. Pace the story well. Don't do it like recent shows on Netflix with too much filler episodes that have content that could have been easily reduced to half as much episodes.
