SPIRAL: FROM THE BOOK OF SAW And More Lionsgate Movies No Longer Being Released In April/May

With movie theaters across the globe closing their doors, more upcoming releases have been removed from April and May as Lionsgate postpones the likes of Saw reboot Spiral and horror film Antebellum...

As things stand, the only new film we're going to have to watch in April is Trolls World Tour. That's quite different to the month we were expecting, of course, and now Lionsgate is the latest studio to postpone a slew of upcoming releases.

For starters, Saw reboot Spiral: From The Book of Saw is now undated after originally being pencilled in for May 15th. Starring Chris Rock, the hope was that would serve as a way of bringing back the long-running franchise for a new audience, but the response to the trailer could be a sign that sending it straight to digital plaforms might not be the worst idea.

That's not happening for now, though, and joining the delayed horror movie is the Janelle Monáe-led horror film Antebellum. Originally opening on April 24th, it too no longer has a release date, and the same can be said for Lionsgate's Run (which was due in theaters on May 8th).

This is going to be a significant blow to Lionsgate, especially as they don't release the sort of big budget fare that makes recouping their losses down the line as easy as it might be for others.

Still, this news probably shouldn't come as a major surprise, as the closure of theaters means that nothing can be released for the foreseeable future. Yesterday, Black Widow was pushed back to an undisclosed date by Disney and Marvel Studios, while the likes of F9 and No Time to Die have also been postponed as COVID-19 continues to spread across the globe.

We'll continue to keep you guys updated as we learn more.

Let's be clear: Quarter 2 is non-existent. Quarter 3 fate is up in the air.

@WakandanQueen - Tenet the first movie released after the situation's improved, does a billion dollars worldwide... or it more likely gets delayed to the fall

@WakandanQueen - I get what you’re saying, but I haven’t seen a single responsible prediction that stretched the pandemic past May. If this lasts more than two months, it’s worse than China...
