Spider-Man: Brand New Day Remains #1 For Fourth Weekend As MCU Movie Reaches $2.2 Billion Worldwide

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still ruling the box office, remaining at #1 despite stronger-than-expected competition from the new Insidious movie. With that, it's hit another amazing global benchmark.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day remained atop the North American box office this weekend, grossing a spectacular $39 million during its fourth weekend in theaters. That takes it up to  $854.9 million domestically, meaning it's just $3.4 million away from beating Avengers: Endgame's $858.3 million record.

With that, Spidey's latest solo outing will become the second highest-grossing movie ever at the U.S. box office. How long it will keep that record remains to be seen, as Avengers: Endgame returns to theaters next month as the extended Avengers: Endgame Encore.

The next hurdle for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is $900 million (highly likely) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens' $936.7 million record (less likely). While it's not impossible, Spidey may remain in second place when all is said and done.

Globally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to astonish, reaching an incredible $2.22 billion worldwide. Again, how much higher it will swing from there depends on many factors, but this one probably isn't done breaking records quite yet.

Insidious: Out of the Further opened to a solid $25.3 million stateside this weekend, while The Odyssey took third place with $19.5 million during its sixth weekend playing in multiplexes. That was followed by Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie ($9.1 million), The End of Oak Street ($9 million), and Mutiny, the new Jason Statham action movie, which struggled to find an audience with just $7.5 million.

Other noteworthy box office news this weekend saw both Obsession and Minions & Monsters surpass $500 million worldwide, with The Odyssey reaching $1.4 billion. Moana, meanwhile, will go down as one of Disney's lowest-grossing live-action adaptations, reaching just $306 million globally.

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control.

But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

In our review, we concluded by saying, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day is everything fans could want. Emotional, hilarious, and heartfelt, it’s an action-packed love letter to the comics and one of Spidey’s best big-screen adventures. Spider-Man has never been more amazing."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters.

Since they made all this money, hopefully next time they can actually shoot on location and not on some sound stage or studio lot.

@TheNewYorkerr - It doesn’t work like that.

Brand new day has got to be the most overrated 2 billion dollar hit of all time. It really didn’t deserve to make this much but I’m not complaining. I’m just surprised that it’s grossed this much.

@UceOmega - "but I'm not complaining" he says after complaining.

@Amaru - Not a complaint just an observation. I’m glad you can read. Can you count as well?

@UceOmega - It's the best Spidey film since 2004.

It absolutely deserves all the money it made.

Also, you are absolutely complaining.

Spider-Man is roughly $82 million away from catching The Force Awakens domestically, which I think it possible, although difficult.

@OneMoreTime - Spider-Man 5, Supergirl 2, or one of the next Avengers movies will be the first movie to hit $3 billion worldwide; that's how strong a brand the MCU is when it's doing things right. My $$$ is on Secret Wars pulling it off.
