We thought CBS All Access upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand had already rounded out its cast, but Deadline is now reporting that Heather Graham (Boogie Nights, Scrubs, Flaked) has also joined the ensemble.

Graham will play Rita Blakemoore, "a wealthy woman who is ill prepared for the end of the world and attempts to escape superflu-infested New York City." Rita is a minor character in the novel, but the fact that a relatively high profile actress has been cast in the role could suggest that her part has been expanded for the show.

Graham joins previously announced stars James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young, Henry Zaga, Alexander Skarsgård and Whoopi Goldberg.

New Mutants director Josh Boone, who was the driving force behind all previous attempts to adapt the book, will direct, write, and produce the upcoming series.

No premiere date for The Stand has been announced yet.

One of Stephen King's greatest stories... Wish it was going to be a couple of films but I get why a mini series makes sense. I just hope it turns out good.

@BigDriggs - The original mini-series was OK for TV adaptation, but nowhere's near as good as the book. IT was a much more faithful adaptation for TV just without the gore. I agree I'd rather see a couple of movies, but if the budget is good they should be able to achieve a good adaptation.
