When moviegoers head to the theaters over the coming weeks to see Marc Forster's adaptation of World War Z, they will have the option of purchasing a "mega ticket" at five select theaters. Paramount and Fandango are offering audiences the option of purchasing a mega ticket at the box office for the very low price of $50 at a value of $75. What exactly is the benefit of buying a mega ticket? Will Brad Pitt be accompanying you to said movie and providing you with fun factoids and behind the scenes info while watching WWZ? Unfortunately no as the mega ticket provides patrons with a ticket to an advanced screening in 3D June 19th, the movie for download or stream when it is eventually released on blu-ray, customized 3D movie glasses, an exclusive movie poster, and a small popcorn. And yes you will still have to purchase your own beverage or use the water fountain as the mega ticket does not provide a drink. Regal Cinemas is offering the mega ticket for purchase in Irvine, Atlanta, San Diego, Houston, and Philadelphia.

In a time when ticket prices for movies are already high and audiences have less disposable income to use for a day at the movies, is this a really smart move on the part of Paramount and Fandango? Frankly, you would have a hard time convincing me to spend 50 dollars to see a movie that may not even meet my expectations. Leave your opinions in the usual place.

"Speaking to film students this week, Spielberg warned of an imminent “implosion” in the industry, saying several successive blockbuster box-office flops would radically alter the Hollywood business model. In future, the director suggested, audiences will be expected to pay more to see large-scale films than their more understated counterparts.

“You’re gonna have to pay $25 [£16] for the next Iron Man,” he said. “You’re probably only going to have to pay $7 to see Lincoln.” Spielberg also revealed that Lincoln, his Oscar-winning 2012 biopic of the 16th US President, had come “this close” to being an HBO television film, and only earned a theatrical release because the director co-owns his own film studio, Dreamworks."

That is pretty dumb. First of all what if you're going as a family. That really eliminates the need for everyone in that party to own the same film. Second of all you can only download or stream. They couldn't just give you a certificate to get it at Best Buy or give you a code so you could get it on Amazon. I know it's because that the stream or download is cheaper but come on, don't screw over people who just paid $50 for a movie ticket. Third, the small popcorn add in sounds like something somebody put in as a joke. Fourth, exclusive glasses and posters sound cool and all but if you really wanted them you could just as easily pay 5 bucks for them on eBay. Fifth, who is the target audience for this. I mean obviously rich kids but who else. Somebody did not think this one through. And last (I think this is last, if I think of anything else I'll make another comment), but definitely not least, IT'S 50 FREAKING DOLLARS!!!

This kind of thing might actually work for movies people are excited about, or popular franchises. (Man Of Steel, Star Wars) But World War Z has stinkburger written all over it. I wouldn't pay $10 to see it.
