VAMPIRELLA: Arowana Media Holdings Acquires The Film And TV Rights To Iconic Comic Book Vampire

Mike The Pike Productions, Inc. has announced that its subsidiary, Arowana Media Holdings, Inc., has acquired the film, TV, and streaming rights to Dynamite Entertainment's Vampirella

The character has been drawn by dozens of artists in hundreds of issues published over the last 50 years, with the most recent penned by Black Panther and Deathstroke writer Christopher Priest.

During the course of her storied history, Vampirella has clashed with Dracula, dodged the murderous intentions of Conrad van Helsing, and even fallen in love with his son, Adam van Helsing. She's also had some "issues" with her mother Lilith, taken a young punk runaway, Sofia Murray, under her wing, and tangled with Fattoni, a sadistic Mafia boss.

So, yes, there's plenty of material that would be suitable for any number of movies or TV shows!

"We are thrilled with the opportunity to bring this amazing character to screen in a big way," says MIKP CEO and Producer Mark B. Newbauer. "Nick Barucci, founder and CEO of the prolific Dynamite Comics, is an incredible visionary with an eye for story, and a talent for integration into the zeitgeist."

"He and everyone at Dynamite have resurrected this character in a significant way over the past decade and this latest run with Priest feels like it’s just the beginning of her next 50 years and beyond. We are truly grateful for the faith and support of Dynamite, Nick, and their reps, including producer/manager Ford Gilmore of Illuminati Entertainment."

There are clearly big plans in the works for Vampirella, but it's still early days, and we have no word on writers, directors, or even whether this adaptation will be a movie, TV show, or both.

Things are definitely looking up for the character in live-action, though!

I had the pleasure of drawing Vamperella for Harris when they had her rights. Always a favorite. I’d love to get to draw her again.

I have always loved Vampirella since her introduction in the large Warren magazines. I even had a 5ft poster of here hanging up in my dorm room during my military days. (Wonder what ever happened to that?) But must admit to having a few doubts about the ability to faithfully transfer the character to live action and the screen. Time will tell of course and I may get a pleasant surprise, but definitely have my doubts.

@Mugens - Have you seen the Vampirella movie? It's on YouTube for free.

I am after some of those early Vampirella magazines,I want her first appearance but it's a bit pricey and the issue that came out on my birthday but because it's bi-monthly I either get the October issue or the December one, even though I was born in November.

Neat, what about the rights to Barbarella though? That would be a franchise in the making

So, uh... is that banner image any indication of what she'll look like? I'm asking, for a friend obviously

Vampirella I am interested in this, let's hope they keep the costume. Make it 18,maybe 15 at a push and let's get a faithful adaption.

Vampirella has some of the best cover art going,I've got quite cgc and raw copies.

Parrillo,Oliver,Cohen,Gallagher,Ross and Artgerm are some of the best cover artists.

@marvel72 - I would prefer they keep any movie/TV series on ice if they are thinking of dumping the Frazetta-designed costume. The cultural environment right now might not be best.

@GeneralZod - It would be nice to see a director just come out say I don't give a f*ck I am making it my way.

Tarantino is that kind of director.

@marvel72 - yep. the problem is getting a studio that isn't scared of political blowback. Tarantino pulls it off because his name is gold and virtually guarantees a huge payday with anything he touches.

The Warren era (1969 to 1982) of Vampirella had the greatest cover artists, hands down. Pepe Gonzalez. San Julian. Enric. Kenny Kelly.

There was a mid-90s Vampirella movie, very low-budget, pretty bad. But Talisa Soto did a decent job as Vampi, and Roger Daltrey (lead singer of The Who) was the villain.

The fact that there arent many comments so far is a pretty big indicator that most people on this site dont actually read comics.

@Himura - it's a shame because some of the artwork on these books are outstanding.

Some stories are better than others.

I'd be up for Vampirella Anime.

I love Vampirella. Her appearances in Hack/Slash were a highlight. I also have the mini-series where she fought the Xenonomorphs. Fun and goofy.

Vampirella fan here from the very first Warren issue. Hammer would have done a great job on the first planned movie, and Barbara Leigh looked like she stepped right out of the pages of the magazine. Either do the movie right or don't do it at all.
