WEREWOLF BY NIGHT Director Michael Giacchino Rumored To Be In Talks To Helm MIDNIGHT SONS Movie

A new rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that Marvel Studios is moving forward with a Midnight Sons movie, and Werewolf By Night director Michael Giacchino is said to be in talks to helm...

We've been hearing that Marvel Studios might be planning a Midnight Sons movie for quite a while (shortly after the Moon Knight finale aired), and the project has taken a major step forward if a new rumor is to be believed.

According to Daniel Richtman, Werewolf by Night director Michael Giacchino is attached/in talks to helm the movie.

Though a Midnight Sons movie has yet to be officially announced, Marvel Studios assembling its roster of supernatural/magical characters for a team-up event would seem like a smart move. Multiple characters have been a part of or associated with the team in the comics over the years, but the MCU's line-up would most likely include Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, Werewolf By Night/The Werewolf, Man-Thing, and Blade.

Speaking of the Daywalker, there's a rumor doing the rounds online that Mahershala Ali has parted ways with the upcoming Blade reboot due to the old "creative differences." The move hasn't exactly had the smoothest of journeys to the screen, so this wouldn't come as a major surprise, but we wouldn't put too much stock in this just yet. We'll be sure to update if and when we learn more.

As for Moon Knight, star Oscar Isaac recently showed interest in reprising his role(s) for a Midnight Sons project.

"I thought there was an interesting opportunity with Midnight Sons. There’s such interesting characters in there, and now that we’ve set the groundwork with learning who Marc, Steven, Jake are, it could be an interesting opportunity to see him as part of a team and what that dynamic would be. So I think that would be exciting, I think for me, I definitely hope there’s some room to explore that possibility."

We'd say a Midnight Sons movie (or Disney+ series) is definitely going to materialize at some point, but given how the current Marvel Cinematic Universe slate is looking as we head towards the next two Avengers films, it may not enter development for quite a long time.

What do you make of this rumor? Would you like to see Giacchino direct? Which characters do you think should be part of the team? Drop us a comment down below.

"Stephen Strange, AKA Doctor Strange, gathers a loose-knit confederation of mystically powered heroes, originally called the Nine and eventually the Midnight Sons, to serve as mankind's first line of defense against the Mother of Demons, Lilith, and her children, the Lilin."

Midnight Sons is such a shit name for a team

@FireandBlood - Speaking of shit names, I wonder if they will change Brother Voodoo's name. That certainly didn't age well.

FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 2/15/2024, 4:55 PM
@Izaizaiza - They’ll just call him by his actual name like they did with M’Baku. Jericho Drumm sounds cool anyway

soberchimera - 2/15/2024, 4:58 PM
@Izaizaiza - How did it not age well? Brother is another name for a priest, it was never intended to be racial.

@Izaizaiza - I hope they embrace it. Brother Voodoo has always been a cool name.

Izaizaiza - 2/15/2024, 5:08 PM
@FireandBlood - agreed. That will probably be the way they go.

@soberchimera - Ah, it's not the brother part, it's the voodoo part. Voodoo is generally considered a racist term at this point, and associated with a lot of intentional misrepresentation, primarily by Hollywood in the 20th century, of religions of the African diaspora.

@FireandBlood - I honestly agree. I think the game actually made a good move by changing it to Suns.

But they will end up using the name, simply because it's the best known supernatural team from the comics.

soberchimera - 2/15/2024, 5:44 PM
@Izaizaiza - But they changed his name to Doctor Voodoo and still refer to him as such, also Louisiana/New Orleans Voodoo is still practiced today and spelled as such.

@soberchimera - Yeah, it's definitely a multi-faceted issue. I would guess that Marvel would play it safe, though. To be clear, I don't have strong feelings about it, but there is certainly a lot of criticism of the term.

@Izaizaiza - The article contradicts itself by saying that “voodoo” is a racist term, but glosses over the fact that black people in Louisiana still practice it and spell it that way. Not arguing against the bits about slavery and imperialism, but seems like they’re oversimplifying the American interpretation of the religion.

@soberchimera - Yeah, I won't pretend to be an expert on it, or to know how accurate the Wikipedia page is. I just know that the term has come under a lot of criticism, in part because of how it has been portrayed in Hollywood.

@Izaizaiza - I loved Brother Voodoo, Son of Satan, Ghost Rider, Werewolf by Night and ManThing way back in the day when they first came out. I don't think Voodoo in and of itself is racist nor is the character. He needs to be in there.
Goldboink
Goldboink - 2/15/2024, 6:48 PM
@Izaizaiza -
Well, son of a bitch, when I wasn't looking someone read up on it and discovered it was a racist term. Who knew? I'm not giving up my shrunken head though.

@Izaizaiza - I thought his ACTUAL brother's spirit merged with him after voodoo shenanigans - making him LITERALLY Brother Voodoo - I'm sure it might have had a little blacksploitation vibe on it but it's still cool AF.

@Batmangina - Yeah, I love the character too... I just think he might need a little bit of a tweak for the general audience not to think it's dumb

Back with the rumours.

Werewolf By Night Special was really good,Midnight Sons would be cool but what about Legion Of Monsters.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/15/2024, 5:09 PM
@marvel72 - Legion of Monsters is cool too, but I think that kinda closes the door on Moon Knight, Blade, Ghost Rider, Black Knight and Doctor Strange imo.

Um, that's ManThing. Swamp Thing is DC.

I would pay good money to see this film.

That would be cool…

I liked Werewolf by Night so having more of that feel wouldn’t be a bad thing at all!!.

I hope Elsa Bloodstone is in this , I liked her character & Laura Donnelly’s performance…

Plus , she’s been part of the team in the comics.

@MarkCassidy

You've written Swamp Thing instead of Man-Thing.

Swamp Thing works for the other company.

Also, for someone with very little directing experience I think he killed it. Homeboy went from being a composer to a few short films to this.

@Itwasme - having seen the Directir By Night docu on D+, the jump didn't surprise me. Guess he always had a knack for directing
Itwasme
Itwasme - 2/15/2024, 5:23 PM
@bkmeijer1 - I think talent is hard to find in films and fans really get it. From a creative side lots start strong because they have a stack of great ideas to work through, but it takes a whole other breed of director to deliver long-term because they need to keep coming up with ideas. It's why there's so few Speilbergs and even then just because they are incredibly talented, it doesn't mean every film will come off successful (see 1941, Always, The BFG and so on).

It's a fickle industry with no guarantees.
