I have to say, this is insane. I don't think everyone understands how crazy this is.

Iron Man was definitely never an A-Lister. I mean not like Spider-Man, Batman, Superman. To get such a character to gross more than all of them is insane.

It's the Avengers effect. Kudos Marvel

I don't think they are choosing the right actors for the other films. Zac Efron was supposed to have played Spider-Man, that would have been a superhit.

Finally, Iron Man has grossed more than a Spider-Man movie(TASM). Contrats, Tony!

He's still not in SM's league though.

SteveRogersSon, I'm [frick]ing complementing Iron Man. What the hell is your problem man? Seriously?

And I never even said Iron Man wasn't interesting. I said he wasn't popular.

Before 2008, Iron Man was not nearly as popular as Spidey or Batman. Really, no superhero properties were. X-Men was probably the closest. Before 2008, ask any casual person what the name of the person inside Iron Man is and no one would know. Now, everyone knows Tony Stark because of RDJ.

Although there a small downside to this. Because of RDJ, it seems the character has remodeled after his performance. Not really a downside but it's weird.

Gonna see it today! :) I have a feeling it gonna rival for best solo movie and best non avengers Marvel movie of all time. As far as the money goes, I think it's popular. Call it a hunch

It's so easy to get over 1 billion when it has no direct competition at the time of its opening weekend. This seems like a mediocre film and so knowing that it'll still make a billion dollars is actually somewhat depressing.

The mediocre reviews are coming from comic book fans who know the source material. Marvel wasn't trying to make a movie version of the Extremis series which was kind of boring btw. They were trying to make a movie that appealed to the masses. Which is why this movie will make a billion. They were trying to make a popular blockbuster and they succeeded. I think die hard fans are upset BC comics are becoming mainstream now.

@Crossbones ... way early to predict, I hear ya. But I see a talking raccoon & a (sort of) talking tree &, besides us hardcore nerds, an army of parents & KIDS going to see this.

..& for the beautiful nerds saying this film is underserving of $1B+, I liked it more the 2nd time. May not be everything to everyone & it's hard to catch the lightning-in-the-bottle of the original IM, or spectacle of the Avengers, but overall IMHO it was very entertaining & a worthy chapter in the "Marvel Saga." IMHO :)

Stop trifling you worthless cretins. If a CBM makes a shitload it's good for everyone! Marvel and DC will make more movies, because people eat them up. So stop wanting a failure for either side. IF Iron man 3 had bombed. I guarantee Dc would have no movies for a while.
