Hello and I'm The Comic Critic,

I have recently posted an article about possible replacements for Tony Stark when Downey's time is up. It was met with much controversial demand as I see Robert Downey Jr changed not just the character of Iron-Man but now the way people actually think about the character. You can be reading an older Iron Man comic from the last decade and just can not resist reading his lines as if you were Downey Jr himself. Initially he has become the icon or may some say the new God of Marvel Comics among the ranks of Stan Lee and many other greats. What is their to improve about Iron Man his personality and charming witty comedic timing is already taking care of itself in a flash within a few seconds to the next few seconds. There has been talk at one point to adapt the Demon in The Bottle storyline which heavily dwells into the problem of his alcohol addiction. But is this what we really need that needs to be adapted? To say alcohol is an international substance known worldwide and also pretty easy to get when your at the legal age. We have seen hints and micros of this storyline in Iron Man 2 also. Wouldn't most billionaires want to kick back and spend some time with some good ole rum and gun by a palm tree. I think giving Tony Stark an alcohol addiction is just an easy way out instead of something more complex and controversial.

What would the solution be, drugs. Instead of alcohol how about a down and out Tony Stark with a major drug addiction. I'm not just talking about him popping in a bunch of pain killers once in a while I'm talking about the real deal. Tony Stark smoking weed, sniffing coke, doing hash every kind of drug in the book you can think of. Drug addictions are becoming a major problem in the world today so having a story set around this with Tony Stark instead of alcohol being the main factor. Maybe Tony has a secret dealer who he becomes friends with and must entrust him not to tell anyone or it could ruin his career for life. Possibly he gets really stoned and goes into action as Iron Man without any sense of what he is doing. I believe this type of story is right to do after Iron Man 3. It would serve for more consequences in life and a strong lesson to help youths of today's nation. I do not "participate" in any activity with a form of a deadly substance involved and I myself knowing it is very dangerous.

With that being said bring on Iron Man 3 and I can't wait to see the future of this character.
If you have any comments or suggestions please post in the comments below and I'll read them and try to reply thank you.

I don't see a need for that change, the point is that Tony is an addict. While drug addiction may be on the rise it doesn't seem right to make that change.

With alcoholism it is possible hide in plain sight up to a point. Drinking is socially acceptable, Tony attends many functions and parties as do many people. Personally I think the bottle is very relevant due to the fine line between what is considered normal behavior and going overboard. As opposed to being the easy way out it shows how a loss of control can affect your life and that what is legal and what is right are not necessarily the same thing.

would never happen in a pg-13 / 12a rated film

if you arent doing it with alcohol the only drug that would make sense could be some kind of performance enhancer he starts taking as he is getting old and weaker to use the suit, though that would possibly sound abit like extremis in a way or even the comic book version of bane's venom.

i just want to see some character development, he has barely changed since the end of the 2nd act of iron man, he dicked about a bit in iron man 2 but nothing reallu changed character wise and other than coulson dying affecting him for 5 minutes we havent seen any real development at all.

im no dc vs marvel guy but i prefer nolan's batman films to anything ive seen of marvel's cinematic universe mainly because of how character development is the driving force of the films
