Agent Coulson on his Involvement in Coming Marvel Movies -- Includes New Info!

In this interview for the Blu-Ray/DVD release of Iron Man 2, actor Clark Gregg let loose some new info on coming Marvel movies he'll be involved with--including Captain America TFA, a Nick Fury movie, and The Avengers.

See the whole video interview below, but among the good bits...

Regarding Captain America TFA:
“I know that Captain America film takes place primarily during the Battle of Britain in the 40’s. So, when I heard that I certainly pitched the idea that I could play my own grandfather, but so far they haven't called.”

About a Nick Fury movie...
“I’ve heard about the Nick Fury movie. I would assume that if they make a Nick Fury movie they’re gonna have to use Coulson cause he’s Nick’s right hand man. That’s still a couple of movies away and I’m hoping nothing happens to Agent Coulson cause I don’t know what I would do for work.”

About his involvement in The Avengers...
"...Joss Whedon comes up to me (during SDCC), hey listen, you're in The Avengers. We're gonna introduce you as part of The Avengers. And I was like, GET OUTTA HERE! ...I start the Avengers in a couple months. ...I'm told in February, in Manhattan."

Marvel has faith in their movies, and will continue them at a rapid pace simply because they can. Unlike Warner Brothers, who owns DC but has barely utilized any characters in films outside of Superman and Batman, and are just now starting to really tap into the true potential of what they have, Marvel Studios have only one resource... the comic characters they haven't already sold away the rights to.

That puts Marvel in an odd situation. Take what characters they haven't bartered to Fox, Sony, or the other studios, and run with them. And in my opinion, they're doing that with intense passion. They're forced to take chances no other studio would dream of. WB could've been leading up to a Justice League movie any time in the last 20 years. Marvel's going to do it first, and do it well.

Much like their characters, Marvel superheroes are flawed underdogs who go all out, Marvel Studios is doing the same. I respect the integrity and diligence Marvel is giving it's fans in creating movies which have dominated the live-action movie world the last few years, and although I think Green Lantern and eventually The Flash will be great films, I think WB needs to step up to the plate and embrace their DC properties as fully as Marvel does their own.

@ Taboo - you know they are not going to put The Avengers Movie into theaters until 2012 right... I think that give them plenty of time to tweak anything that might need to be tweaked...

Agent Coulson is really starting to grow on me. I did not think much of him at all in the first Iron Man movie... I just figured he was just another entry level agent..

Well I am looking forward to Thor and Captain America: TFA to come out next year... and of course The Avengers in 2012.... <-----Taboo. :D

It's not so much that Agent Coulsen is an amazing character it has more to do with the fact that he is the most defined link between all these films.

Having said that I thought his performance in the first Ironman film was excellent. It really captured what SHIELD was all about whilst being very understated.

I think they call that subtext!

Very cool guy. He's an awesome actor and Marvel/Jon Favreau made a great choice by including him in Iron Man back in 2008. I can't wait to see what his role will be in The Avengers that's for sure! Great find Galactus! :)

@Frank Garret said "I hope he's kidding about playing his own grandfather. Its kind of sad he'd ask."

He is an Actor and they do such things. Interestingly enough if there was not already an Immortal Nick Fury in TFA they might have gone with Clark's suggestion. They love that sort of thing in Hollywierd. In TFA it would be a bit much and I don't see it.

Clark Gregg has done great things with a small role and I look forward to seeing more of his Agent Coulson. But I am pretty sure some monster is going to eventually eat the poor guy. Lets not tell him that though. *grins*

@TABOO13 - I believe Hercules has the full power of Zeus now, so he and Thor are going to take Silver Surfer down in short order.

Back to the article. This guy is hilarious. If he is a skrull of something I hope they can rescue the real Coulson to keep him in the films.

@TheDarqueOne - Ditto to your post.

Well I like his character, he is a great actor and all. But his character is gonna be a member of the team or what? ugh, dont get me wrong but I think he should be only a SHIELD agent who is on the movie, not a member of the team.

okay, why do i constantly hear people saying Marvel is rushing Avengers? its been in planning stages for over 5 years. By the time it comes out, it will be a movie thats been in the works for 7 full years. how much more planning do you guys want them to do? they were scheming back while they were making the first Iron Man movie for god's sake. I guess people want them to plan for 10 years before they get around to filming? ridiculous.

That comment was meant for anyone thats said its being rushed. But in all seriousness, how do you feel its being rushed? don't you think they've planned enough?

and, "go chew another weenie?" really? because i pointed out how absurd it is to think that? whatever. i guess in your world you make a good argument...
