Iron Man 3: What should happen, what shouldn't

Iron Man 3 should be Iron Man only when it's on the line.

Should:

1. The Mandarin

Jon Favreau decided to pass on iron man's top rival in the first two movies, and with this most likely the iron's final outing, the Mandarin is a must. Using this villian is also a good idea because a lot of people could not stand the fact that that the first two villians were non-superhuman.

How he should fit into the storyline:
The Mandarin should be out to get Tony because he possesses the last makulan ring without realizing it. To help steal it, the Mandarin hires henchman Donald Gill (a.k.a the Blizzard). The. Mandarin should exist throughout the movie, but only make first contact with iron man until there is about 30 minutes left. In case you didn't pick it up, he should be the main villian.
Who do you think should play the Mandarin?

2. The Blizzard

I believe that for iron man to make a comeback, the movie needs to have more than one big villian for iron man to take down. This, I feel could make it apparent again that iron man is such a kick-butt hero and doesn't need teamwork to defeat a villian (like in the Avengers and Iron Man 2, more emphasis on this later). I think Blizzard would be a good fit for this roll because he is a big force to be reckoned with, but not that big of a force.

How he should fit into the storyline:
Blizzard should have been originally hired by A.I.M to steal vibranium from countries that have some of it so they can use it for weapons. But Blizzard is stumped by iron man and a friend ( not yet mentioned by myself). After this the Blizzard is lost track of until the Mandarin seeks him out.

3. A.I.M/ M.O.D.O.K

There is just something about this idea that I just can't get enough of. To me the action that this group of antagonists can bring to the big screen. I could picture iron man and friend (again) in the air in NYC battling A.I.M around Stark Tower. I could picture iron man and friend stopping them from attacking Stark headquarters in California. The only problem I see with this is what in the world would MODOK look like?

How they should fit into the storyline:
As mentioned before, AIM goes out and hires Donald Gill so he can go and collect vibranium. After iron man and friend stop Blizzard, he reveals that AIM had hired him. After AIM goes under full beatdown in some heavy battles, they decide to build MODOK so they will not be beaten so badly in case this happens again. But, MODOC goes on overdrive and AIM must seek iron man out to help destroy "him" (?). Afterward, AIM is taken in by SHEILD.

4. Black Panther

This is the friend I kept mentioning. This is what will lead Black Panther into The Avengers: Reassemble (?). I know this sounds just like Iron Man 2 and that your probably thinking: but weren't you just saying that it shouldjust be iron man? Yes, I did but I have a solution for this.

How he should fit in:
Black Panther finds that Blizzard has stolen vibrainium from his country and he declares vengence against Blizzard as the Black Panther. After looking, he finds that Blizzard is in North Korea to steal the precious.metal. As it turns out, Stark is also there giving peace speaches. Iron man sniffs something out and then ends up helping black panther in battle with Blizzard in the mark 5 2.0. When the battle is over there is almost immediate connection between the two and they agree to help each other when needed. Black Panther figures that AIM is Behined this and goes in pursuit of them. Again, iron man comes to help and AIM is defeated. This is the last we see of him, so this means that it is just iron man in the final battle.

5. Final battle just Iron Man

As mentioned before, iron man needs to do this himself. I have an idea how this may work.

How this should work:
Iron man seeks help from war machine to defeat MODOC. But in the battle war machine gets injured so iron man only has himself to defeat the Mandarin and Blizzard.

The following shouldn't happen for either obvious reasons or it was somewhat mentioned before.

Titanium Man/ other metal villians
Major SHEILD involvement
Drinking sub-conflict
NO SENATOR STERN
NO HAPPY HOGAN- Jon Favreau ruinined the direction of Iron Man 2- don't let him back!
Fing Fang Foom- the levitahn in the Avengers
Iron Man 2 Howard Stark, Captain America Howard Stark made to look older
Stark/ Potts wedding

If the Iron Man 3 movie is like what I had just wrote, it might just be better than the original.

I also like the idea of The Mandarin revealing himself as the "puppet master" in the first two films (ten rings group, Vanko mentioning ten rings group)

Hmm, I like your ideas and having Black Panther would be a good way to introduce the character to audiences. But cut MODOK, he'll never work on screen. And I think Ghost would be a better villain. AIM hire Ghost to steal Vibranium to build Fin Fang Foom (Let's face it, a dragon is never gonna work with IM on film so it would need to be some kind of robot monster). He goes to Wakanda and takes it, prompting Black Panther to seek vengeance. Whilst giving a peach speech in North Korea, he showcases something he created: The Makulan Rings. Magic should be kept out of Iron Man, have it with Avengers but it wouldn't work with IM alone. They're basically rings that can connect to your brain and bring any near cybernetic power to you, or something along the lines of that. Black Panther has also gone there to find Ghost, and together they defeat him. Then basically what you said, except no MODOK andkill off Rhodey.

I like the fact that Black Panther gets introduced in a solo outing...but not Tony Stark's last chance to shine

I agree with panther but mandarin ust doesnt fit in with the tone favreau set up. Now if he is foreshadowed in another marvel film like cap in a ww2 flashback of japan or something it would be eased in. But mandarin is too left field.

The Mandarin would be the logical choice. In IM1 he is kidnapped by the Ten Rings, the terrorist cell that the Mandarin leads, and in the second Ivan Vanko is seen meeting with someone from the Ten Rings, in the first half of the film I believe, before Hammer gets his mits on Rourke.
But I agree, I don't want them to use the Mandarin. @MovieMaster makes a good point with Ghost, after reading Ultimate Armour Wars I'd really like to see Ghost in a film.
@Morty....The Incredible Hulk WAS science based, science and technology are, more or less, hand-in-hand. What I didn't like was the break-away to Coulson at Mjolnir's impact zone.

i always thought iron man & captain america team up movie would of been cool for iron man 3 i.e iron man & captain america vs modoc & a.i.m.

i also would love to see armour wars adapted for the big screen.

I always thought that in this universe the mandarin is a political player, a puppet master, someone who is pulling all the strings behind the scenes.

Sort of like Damien in the omen.

I always prefered it when Ironman deals with corporations and terrorism and getting his hands dirty rather than flying around beating up shiny suits of armour. Gives him a much more grounded feel which suits him and has a real element of danger to it.

Leave all the crazy, hysterical stuff to Thor exploring the nine realms.

Mandarin should be a back ground villain, like a sort of evil puppet-master presence. They could set him up for Avengers 2, and make Avengers 2 pretty Iron Man-centric.

I think Iron-man's next challenge should be alcoholism.

And keeping the enemy in IM #1- which worked so well- terrorist extremists, would work best . Keep it real.

@hawkeye07- I was talking about your "Potenial sub-conflict" The whole giving up as Iron Man thing was in every Spider-Man. And Black Panther? Really? Remember what happened last time there was Avengers in an Iron Man movie? Yeah, Black Panther needs his own movie or play a major role in The Avengers sequel :)

I read and being realistic. And the final battle was the only problem in Iron Man 2? Haha watch it again, do your homework, and think it through. And Thor wasn't a well known character to the general public either.

Right about it being your article, but expect opinions and criticisms to come. This is what I think and I just want an "IRON MAN" movie with tons of action since it'll be his last solo film. Stark can play Tarzan with Panther in an Avengers sequel. :)

I think Mandarin and the Ten Rings, have an opening pre-credits sequence establishing the existence of Mandarin and his ties to the villains in IM1.

I think Stark in IM3 needs to exist in a post-Avengers environment, perhaps hang out in Stark Tower, have a dinner date with Widow, ignore a phone call from Cap. I mena, that alone would just tickle me pink:

Stark's highly advanced cell phone rings
Cut to close up of screen to see that Stark has saved Cap's number as "Star Spangled Steve".
Stark ignores the call and makes some narky comment.

Not only would this show how Steve is adapting to the modern world, but that Stark's sense of humour towards Cap remains. Plus it would just let the audience know that these guys do keep in touch outside of Avengers missions.

But yeah, going off there, IM3 has to have a major character kick the bucket, preferably Pepper. And make it Tony's fault too.
