The original Jon Favreau-directed Iron Man movie notably set the grounds for Marvel's The Avengers flick as well as the shared cinematic universe, which is now the fourth highest-grossing franchise/film series of all-time. And the 2008 blockbuster has also been dubbed the studios' greatest outing behind Joss Whedon's superhero spectacle.
While the 2010 sequel received mixed reviews, and production on Iron Man 3 is in full swing, Marvel Studios' longtime executive visual effects vice president, Victoria Alonso, is confident the Shane Black-directed installment will be the best of the franchise.
“This is a franchise I love – it’s my baby. It’s going to be a better film than the others and I’m working every day to make sure I do right by the fans who are looking forward to seeing it in May 2013. To bring superheroes to life is a constant challenge, and one that I’m honored to have”
“The best visual effect is the one you don’t see but moves the story. We don’t try to define the story with special effects. Iron Man has to fly from point A to point B, and it’s my job to make sure he does that in the coolest way possible.”
Regarding filming for Iron Man 3, following the star Robert Downey Jr.'s minor injury, production will pick up in south Florida early next month. The majority of the Florida shoot is expected to occur in Fort Lauderdale, Dania Beach, and Miami. And the first specified location, in Miami, is on Pine Tree Drive between Dade Boulevard and 63rd Street in Miami Beach. ![](/images/placeholders/670x377.png)
Described as a “technological crisis thriller,” set in the world of international war, arms & terror, Marvel Studios' “Iron Man 3” stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Dale Dickey, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge Dale, with Sir Ben Kingsley and Jon Favreau. Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) takes over directorial duties from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two “Iron Man” films. Principal photography will occur primarily in North Carolina and China. And “Iron Man 3” is set for release in May 3, 2013.
