Marvel Exec Promises IRON MAN 3 Will Be the Franchise's Best Installment

Although nothing too surprising coming from the Executive Vice President of the the flick's visual effects, Victoria Alonso promises that Iron Man 3 will be the franchise's best installment!

The original Jon Favreau-directed Iron Man movie notably set the grounds for Marvel's The Avengers flick as well as the shared cinematic universe, which is now the fourth highest-grossing franchise/film series of all-time. And the 2008 blockbuster has also been dubbed the studios' greatest outing behind Joss Whedon's superhero spectacle.

While the 2010 sequel received mixed reviews, and production on Iron Man 3 is in full swing, Marvel Studios' longtime executive visual effects vice president, Victoria Alonso, is confident the Shane Black-directed installment will be the best of the franchise.

“This is a franchise I love – it’s my baby. It’s going to be a better film than the others and I’m working every day to make sure I do right by the fans who are looking forward to seeing it in May 2013. To bring superheroes to life is a constant challenge, and one that I’m honored to have”

“The best visual effect is the one you don’t see but moves the story. We don’t try to define the story with special effects. Iron Man has to fly from point A to point B, and it’s my job to make sure he does that in the coolest way possible.”

Regarding filming for Iron Man 3, following the star Robert Downey Jr.'s minor injury, production will pick up in south Florida early next month. The majority of the Florida shoot is expected to occur in Fort Lauderdale, Dania Beach, and Miami. And the first specified location, in Miami, is on Pine Tree Drive between Dade Boulevard and 63rd Street in Miami Beach.

Described as a “technological crisis thriller,” set in the world of international war, arms & terror, Marvel Studios' “Iron Man 3” stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Dale Dickey, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge Dale, with Sir Ben Kingsley and Jon Favreau. Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) takes over directorial duties from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two “Iron Man” films. Principal photography will occur primarily in North Carolina and China. And “Iron Man 3” is set for release in May 3, 2013.

Of course they are. I mean, no one is going to say, "We'll this is just going to absolutely bomb. Worst one yet." Even if they did though, people would still go see it haha.

If she didn't believe it would be the best she'd have no business being attached to the movie!

I have no doubts that IM3 is going to be awesome, but it's not going to top the first.

I have to agree. IM3 will probably be the best one in entire franchise. I'm very excited about IM3, and I can't wait to see the trailer! Plus, I also can't wait to see Iron Man vs The Mandarin.

Not just the best Iron Man film, but the best Marvel Studios film. Yeah, I'm saying it. This will be better than The Avengers. It's not a competition, but Shane Black strikes it out of the park. He's jawdroppingly "badass". Also, I got my Blu-ray of The Avengers and Captain America toy(?) from Walgreens [devious smile].

Why was Iron Man 1 so good? Because it was grounded. It wasn't over the top.

Before people cynically ride Alonso's claim as just another executive's attempt to hype up an upcoming film I would remind you that Marvel execs said the same thing about the Avengers. They claimed that it would be the best Marvel Studios movie ever and well...look at how great that one turned out. So, when I read that they think Iron Man 3 will be the best in the franchise I will give the benefit of the doubt.

I hope so i think it can beat the first. Don't get me wrong with what im about to say, i love the first film, but it doesnt hold up to the memory of what it was when it came out. I think it wouldnt be that hard to top. If IM (which i liked alot just not as much as 1) had a little bit tighter story and longer fights with Whiplash to actually cement him as a villain it would have topped IM for me (overall anyway). If they keep the pace of the dialogue and humor in 2, but maintain the focused story of 1 then i think we will have a gem on our hands.

I don't see it beating Avengers for me though because there were so many nerdgasmic moments but i hope it does. The better the film... well the better lol

I think at the very least, it will be this franchise's equivalent of Last Crusade (a vast improvement over a less than stellar previous adaption, but not as good as the original). I hope it'll be the best one, though!
Boogie138
Boogie138 - 9/25/2012, 5:20 PM
how can this be better than iron man 1? simple give it an ending that dosen't fall flat. the end "fight" was so beyond dissapointing and anything but exciting.

This isn't news.

What the hell else would he say? "Well, it's not the best but it's what you're gonna get"?

Raimi said that Spidey 3 would be the best of the franchise. Ratner said that X Men 3 would be the best of the franchise.

So, again, this isn't news because it really tells us jackshit about jackshit.

TheAbomination - 9/25/2012, 5:48 PM
That's a bold promise to make considering that the first one was amazing (number two wasn't that good). But with Shane Black and Drew Pearce in charge, I have no doubt that it could surpass the previous installments in quality. At the very least, IM3 will probably gross $800 million.

@95

Shane Black didn't direct the Lethal Weapon franchise, he wrote the first one, co-wrote the second.

@Nubase

If you haven't seen any of the Marvel movies more than once besides Iron Man....wow, I don't know why you're here.

They can DEFINITELY top Iron Man, they already have with every movie they've made since, IMHO.

*they've made since Iron Man 2, I should say. The Incredible Hulk is my least favorite Marvel Studios movie.
