Back in late January, tie-in Iron Man 3 toys first revealed a “Deep Space Suit” that, later, added legitimacy to a report, via Latino Review, which spoiled what the Marvel threequel’s inevitable post-credits teaser will entail. Linking the action thriller to the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, additional details have surfaced possibly revealing a plot element of the latter 2014 space epic.

According to Io9 and other sources, after the Chitauri attack in The Avengers especially, (Spoiler Warning) Tony Stark creates the “Space Suit” “using a unique new metal alloy that absorbs his ARC Reactor energy signature. Tony travels into the far reaches of space to find the source of a coded SOS he receives at the end of Iron Man 3. The SOS is from a masked Star-Lord, so Tony takes off to find him (noting that, with the space armor, he’s “ready this time”). Jarvis asks Tony where he’s going, replying, “I’ll be back.”

Considering it was previously reported that Tony Stark would also pop up during the Guardians of the Galaxy post-credits teaser, the above spoiler implies that Guardians will take place either before or concurrently with Iron Man 3 events on Marvel’s shared cinematic timeline. What happens in Guardians of the Galaxy that’ll prompt (Spoiler Warning) Star-Lord to ask for Iron Man’s help, while also leading up to the 2015 follow-up to The Avengers? Who knows! An Io9 user speculates that Thanos is the source of distress and Star-lord is warning Stark that the Mad Titan is coming to Earth; and this is where The Avengers sequel begins. Anyhow, for even more Iron Man 3 spoilers, head over to Io9! What do you think?

Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man? This is so cool the way Marvel has woven together all of its stories into one congruent universe. Take some notes DC and get your s*it together!

anyone else upset by this news? its cool that their trying something different, but I cant help but think that they are only doing this because Iron Man is their cash cow and putting him with GotG only insures its success and will be a gateway for people to get into the cosmic side.

I hope this is bullcrap, but who really knows.

Also, how will they get RDJ back for GotG AND Avengers 2?

So...yeah, why Iron Man? (Because he's the cash cow, sure.) That sounds pretty cool in a way, but I just don't want to see Iron Man getting the spotlight again, especially in a movie involving a team that he's not supposed to be even related to. It's getting pretty tiring.

Assuming this is true, then I guess that means the "SOS" occurs at the end of GOTG not at the beginning so IM might not show up till the end of GOTG...but who knows. They might have IM be the star *or at least co star* in order to mooch off his fame.

The current Guardians of the Galaxy series that just started this week with issue #0.1 has Stark in it, too, so expect Marvel to build up this relationship to coincide with the movies like they tend to do.

I'm still thinking Thanos himself might make a cameo appearance in the end credits of IM3

BallisticWhale: I get it, but I'm still not a fan. Their reliance on Iron Man is actually understandable, but it's as well getting a bit ridiculous. And no, I don't want to see the Guardians of the Galaxy crossing over with the Avengers in The Avengers' sequel, either. I think that should be a movie about...well, the Avengers, and the Avengers only. They're yet to develop much as a team, and I'm pretty firm that I don't want to see them already crossing over with another team in such a "raw" state. Yes, that does mean that I'm fine with not seeing Thanos as the big bad in the sequel.

So if this is true then IM wont be in GOTG, good. I'm getting the feeling that the events of IM3 are going to lead up to pretty much all of phase 2's movies. Keyword here is EVENTS not so much IM himself. Im ok with that.

It doesnt mean they will necessarily be crossing over. If Starlord is sending a diatress signal, or like rumored, its actually not Starlord, but Thanos, using Starlord to lure the Avengers into space after getting beaten in Avengers, then it would make sense to say that maybe the Guardians get defeated in their movie?

The Guardians are supposedly going up against Thanos in their movie, so they aren't going to beat him, that much is obvious.

Maybe Stark takes a warning back to Earth about the coming of Thanos. The Guardians could just be used as a way to get Stark out into space. It doesn't necessarily mean they will go back to earth and be in The Avengers 2.

Joss said he wants to go smaller with the sequel, so all those people worrying about the GOTG appearing in the sequel, just stop. It won't happen.

This sounds good though.

Let me speculate about Avengers 2: Tony arrives and is briefed by Star-Lord about Thanos. He is realizes that he is no match for the Titan alone, so he gathers up his team of heroes. Here's my speculate takes a fork: either (1) Thanos takes the fight to Earth –or– (2) Thanos imprisons Tony and calls for the Avengers to go into space to battle him. Which would then support Planet Hulk rumors because: the team may decide to leave Hulk behind after something goes wrong during the battle.

Plus, it wouldnt be the first time the Guardians botched a mission. Their firat mission together in Annihilation: Conquest didnt exactly go the way the planned. They were like the Bad News Bears of super teams in that.
