The Avengers clearly helped to make Tony Stark more popular than ever as the Armoured Avenger's upcoming return to the big screen has been voted by moviegoers as the most anticipated movie of the summer. As you can see from the press release below (courtesy of our friends over at Fandango), Iron Man 3 came out on top in a recent poll they conducted, while Star Trek Into Darkness took second place. Zack Snyder's Man of Steel meanwhile was beaten by the likes of The Great Gatsby and Fast and Furious 6. Could this be an early indication of how well the film will perform at the box office? Hopefully not, as the future of the DC movieverse rests squarely on the shoulders of Superman at this point! Sound off with your thoughts below...

Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, announced today that tickets are now on sale at Fandango.com and Fandango’s award-winning mobile apps for Iron Man 3, this summer’s most anticipated movie, according to a proprietary online poll of Fandango moviegoers. Also launching today is Fandango’s “Summer of Action,” the ultimate blockbuster movie hub featuring exclusive content and advance ticketing for 14 of this summer’s biggest films, including Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness, Fast & Furious 6, Man of Steel, and The Lone Ranger.

For the ultimate fans, Fandango will offer collectible action movie gift cards for purchase throughout the summer, including four Iron Man 3 character cards now available at www.fandango.com/fandango-gift-cards.

Fandango recently surveyed more than 4,000 film fans who declared Iron Man 3 the “Most Anticipated 2013 Summer Movie” and The Avengers as the “Favorite Summer Action Film of the Past 30 Years.” Other top films that fans singled out in the poll include the following titles (complete lists available at www.fandango.com/summerofaction):

I think it's funny Man of Steel isn't in the top five. It's in my top ten of the year, not even in the top five. Pacific Rim, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, The Wolverine and Star Trek Into Darkness cracks my top five of the year.

I'm actually not surprised by this at all. I mean, Supes is classic and the 1st superhero and all, and the whole world knows the "S" shield and stuff....but Iron Man is "THE" superhero right now and is the hottest sh!t going, it's just the way it is.....also the fact that WB/DC has released absolutely zilch on Man of Steel hasn't exactly built up any hype for the film either

[frick] Hangover and Fast and Furious. Shitty audience taste.

Man of Steel is a brand new refreshing look at Superman. Iron Man 3 is a sequel. Hopefully IM3 will be good but I'm way more excited for MOS.

I'm not surprised about this. WB/DC doesn't believe in their characters/properties, so why would the general public. I'm a huge DC and Superman fan, but the more I see and hear about the movie, the less excited I am. They seem to apologetic, almost ashamed to be putting out a superman movie.

Also, the Preview for Man of Steel was weak sauce compared to IM3, Star Trek and Fast 6. Way too emotional. That may have turned off people that didn't care for Superman Returns.

xfactor - 4/8/2013, 10:37 AM
The list means jack the only reason im3 is at the top is because its release is less than a month away so I'm not getting anything out of this, I only hope Iron man 3 can make up for that last one.

is anyone surprised that MOS isn't getting huge notice? look at the previews, the tone is seeming too dark. For a movie in which Superman supposedly straps on some balls, the previews don't show that. there is no action being seen in any preview. it's like Nolan's influence is trying to strangle the movie into great dramatic film category instead of great comic book movie.

unless a new preview is released soon that shows some action, this movie will fail and the JL is dead.

Yawn. The MCU will over soon enough when The Dark World and Winter Solider flops........

Iron Man 3 is number one because it's whored itself all over the internet with about a million clips of the film. Feel like I've already seen half the movie. I'll be surprised if there's anything in the film I haven't already seen in trailers and exclusive clips.

MOS kept cards very close to chest, meaning a lot more surprises and a lot more to look forward to when you see it in the cinema.

Sequels vs. Reboot.

The only surprise is Gatsby, but Iron Man 3 is competing with Star Trek and Gatsby in week 2 and 3.

Honestly, the only movies I'm really looking forward to seeing this summer are Iron Man 3, Red 2, and Kick Ass 2. Most of the films in that list are just more of the same mindless drivel that Hollywood churns out by the truckload these days. I've discussed my specific reasons for disliking many of those individual films on threads and see no reason to waste time repeating them here. Others are just things that are of no interest to me. Might give Monsters University or Hangover 3 a chance.
