RUMOR: Robert Downey Jr Wants $100 Million To Keep Playing Tony Stark/Iron Man?

Marvel have been a funny place recently, killing Peter Parker in the comics for the second time in the space of two years and the problems don't stop on the page. About a week ago, The Hollywood Reporter said that many stars of The Avengers wanted more money for their respective sequels. Robert Downey Jr was one of the many names that wanted more money, or he was out. Now Marvel are in a very sticky situation, they could always do the easy thing and re-cast, but then the general audience would have no idea what is going on. So is it time for Marvel to pay up? A new rumor has spread online stating that Robert Downey Jr wants $100 Million for The Avengers 2,3 & Iron Man 4 , in a way this deal does make a lot of sense considering the past of contracts (Tobey Maguire received $50 Million for Spider-Man 3 and would have received double for Spider-Man 4,5 & 6 )

The Australian Reports:
A decade ago Robert Downey Jr was Hollywood's poster boy for talent-wasting drug abuse in a series of tacky scandals that landed him in jail for a year.

Now the London-educated actor is set to become Hollywood's first $100 million man. Over the next few weeks negotiators representing the 48-year-old actor and film studios will meet to hammer out details of a two-film deal that could make him the best-paid actor in Hollywood history.

Comic Book.Com Reports
Robert Downey Jr.’s agents of saying he may consider future Marvel Studios roles for a guaranteed $100 million payday along with an increase on his 7 per cent share of box office receipts.

Now what do you guys make of this? Do you believe it is legitimate? or is it another one of those "internet rumors" Comment below and let me know!

Man RDJ owe's a lot to Marvel, they revived his career, but Marvel also owes a lot to him. No way Iron Man takes off the way it did without RDJ.

$50 for each film... Seems alright to me. He got paid that for Avengers. Plus if this whole thing with Avengers 2 thing is true, I bet he wants it for recompense and as a gesture for Hemsworth and Evans and the rest to get more.

Now, I'm a small-town comic book geek from Oklahoma who was the chubby kid in high school that decided one day he wanted to look better, modeling himself after Chris Evans from when he was shooting Cellular so if I were to ever get the chance to play a superhero in my life, all I'd ask for is what I'm making at my job currently ($15.27 per hour). I mean, to represent something I love and have loved my whole life, it'd be killer.

Now RDJ, I understand. Money is money, business is business. I understand it's just a job. Cavill finally had the balls to come out and say it about a week ago in that interview.

None the less, Marvel needs to pay the man, and pay the rest of the people more as well. With each film steadily increasing in box office numbers, it's not as if they'd be "losing" money.

Well...like anyone else, I'm sure RDJ figured out what it's worth to him to continue on with the role. if they go with someone else instead, I doubt he'll lose any sleep over it.

They don't have to pay that much to other stars. It's all depends on box office results of their solo movies. Iron Man series is the highest grossing series for Marvel right now. Captain America and Thor did good, but it's the Iron Man saga and The Avengers that ruled the box office.

Another baseless moronic rumor spawned probably by an AGENT looking for more money for his/her actor.

There is no source. CBM can't be listed as a source for it's own story - that's dumb. Every rumor's been debunked, so it's wildly stupid to continue to post without an actual, honest to goodness source.

No more Iron Man films.

Avengers 2 and 3 should be last Downey´s movies.

I want to see Marvel focusing on some other heroes for a change. And Downey focusing on other roles.

It's actually not CBM.com. The source may be wrong, but he at least listed two sources, neither are this site.

Also, how were they debunked? At this point, one doesn't really know which side to believe.

"The rumor that Joss Whedon was getting $100 Million for Avengers 2 was debunked by Joss himself."

Right...but this is about Robert Downey Jr. The statement I was referring to was a blanket one about how "every rumor has been debunked". I don't see how that's really at all possible.

I wouldn't call either of those sites reputable wellsprings of info. If it doesn't come from Deadline, Variety or THR then you should probably take these reports with a grain of salt.

RDJ you just need to be calm, Iron-Man 3 will come by that money so no need to just scream out ''I want more $100,000,000!''

I think you guys are missing the point though. Assuming this report is correct...I don't see RDJ as greedy, or what have you. He seems like he's relatively prepared to leave the franchise, so he's named a figure that would make it worth it for him. If they agree to this, he wouldn't be able to walk away. Anything short of this amount, he'll probably move on with his career without any regrets.
