Well, next January, it looks as if we're finally going to get some answers in a prologue series from Chris Gage (Avengers Academy) and Steve Kurth (Fantastic Force). There's currently no artwork available, and Barnes & Noble actually have an alternative description for the trade paperback (find that by clicking HERE) which mentions a, "mysterious project has Tony Stark been developing since his alliance with S.H.I.E.L.D." Could that be Extremis? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

• The perfect prelude to the upcoming highly-anticipated Marvel Studios film, Iron Man 3
• As Tony Stark prepares for his next venture, he tasks War Machine with a mission of his own.
• War Machine faces his biggest test as a hero, while Iron Man takes on the Battle of New York!

This wasn't a big issue to me, would've been cool to see him in the film though.

Do we really need an explanation where every hero was during the battle of NY. I thought the movie universe was a different universe. It seems like more marketing crap too me.

It would be cool if they release a prelude comic for each one of the future movies in the vein of Fury's Big Week which was great.

I'd prefer if they explained it in IM 3 instead.

War Machine didn't know what was happening because his cable was out and he spent the day on base in his barracks reading the Hunger Games or Fifty Shades of Grey

Awesome. Glad they explain it, but it isn't really needed. The battle might have lasted 20 minutes or so in real time, so I doubt War Machine would have time (if he heard about it) to suit up and fly over to New York to do anything.

I hope you know that comment was just in good fun... Either way, I'm stoked for IM3 and I'm interested to see what this comic reveals about the MCU.

Lol ^^ @TheHolyDemon.. Are you military? cos you lying straight out of your ass right now and its bothering me cos i am. Colonels DO live on base. Its called base housing and their neighbor can be a common Airman so long as that Airman is Married. We have the dorms for single lower ranking enlisted people but everyone else either lives in base housing (what you guys call barracks) or go off base when there isn't enough space or if they simply feel like it. As a matter of fact, the room I'm sitting it right now is an Officers quarters. Don't ask me what I'm doing here.

Nice thing they are explaining his absence.

@Avengers - I disagree. It would be bad to put even more characters in the movie, specially more IM characters. The only one I wouldn't mind would be General Ross.

And your last sentence makes it sound like an easy task to merge all this lore they're creating. I imagine it isn't.

Now to the topic at hand.. They could have mentioned that he was Coordinating what the military response should be and by the the time they came to a conclusion, the Avengers had saved the day already. and it will all have been hunky dory.. lol

That actually crossed my mind a couple of times. Glad this is gonna be explained!

@Emjeed - yeah, do you remember the military statement about the movie? They said since SHIELD was a shady organization they couldn't agree to have the military in the movie.

If you ask me I call it bullshit, they probably didn't like what you said, the Avengers saved the day by themselves without the need of specific forces, like seen in Transformers for example, where the nice looking military action and equipment serves as propaganda. That's my point of view of course.
NightForce
NightForce - 10/17/2012, 11:25 AM
@Avengers The Chitauri were only in New York, so he wouldn't be off somewhere else fighting them.

The whole "Queen Bee Solution" was one of three things that disappointed me... I look back and wish Rhodey showed up with the military at that point instead. Joss said he wanted to do a war movie, but the best ones don't end like that. Even a cameo would've been enough.
calin88
calin88 - 10/17/2012, 11:46 AM
It's not that big of a deal, War Machine was not needed to track the Tessaract, and when things started to heat up until the end of the movie, there where just a few hours

War Machine is not an Avenger..... so I figured he was just at his day job ....lol I did find it strange America did not send out like 1000 fighter jets ect ....they just were like okay lets just nuke it and be done with it.... The more I watch the avengers the less I like it..

ParisSun
ParisSun - 10/17/2012, 12:46 PM
Do people really need to know this. Just assume he was on a mission for the military. It's like asking where Spiderman and the Xmen were. In that case, where was Alpha Flight, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, The Punisher, etc? It happens in the comics all the time. Technically ever hero from every Marvel comic should show up when the world is in danger but most of the time it's just the heros from the title of the book.

settle down children, I'm talking "classic avengers" warmachine didn't come around till 1979 lol. The ignorance on these boards is atrocious. By that logic why wasn't spider-man or wolverine in this movie OR GIANT-MAN ect LOL fox and sony own those rights blahblahblah. I'm talking thor, hulk, cap, iron man. ^ parissun pretty much nailed it. and honestly this movie is shit the more and more you watch it.
