From Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes "John Carter"--a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). "John Carter" is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

John Carter stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Hayden Church, Willem Dafoe, and will be released on March 9, 2012.

With the pup-creature off to the right that is featured in the trailer I am reminded that indeed this is a Disney production and that this is, in fact, the humorous tag-a-long.

For some unknown and crazy reason this poster reminds me of three other Disney films...The Black Hole, The Cat from Outerspace, and Flight of the Navigator. Anyone else get that feeling?

marvel72: lol, that "little f*cked up creature" is Woola, man. He will be the best part of the film.

I'm sorry, but this movie does not look good. I like Mark Strong, but I'm definitely skipping out on this film.

Lucas, admittedly, took a lot of influence from the John Carter books. The term Jedi is a pluralization of "Jed" and "Jeddack" both originating with this series. And while it seems like a Disney creation, Woola, the dog creature, is straight out of the books. A so ugly it's cute character that follows Carter to the ends of Mars with a pet's devotion. ALL created in 1911-1912 and I think published in 1913. Everything you guys are looking at here was created a hundred years ago. And by the second greatest science fiction/fantasy writer to have lived (H.G. Wells holds the #1 title IMO.)

In fact, a note to the article writers: It would be nice if folks could drop a friendly reminder in future articles that this is based on a series of books written after the turn of the last century. I think it would cut out a lot of confusion and give some proper respect to the source material. Not to mention that the AMAZING Marvel comic book version came out in 1977 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Carter,_Warlord_of_Mars

I was really excited about this movie until I started reading the books. I then realized that no movie or series of movies could do them justice.
