In a new interview, Jodie Foster has made it clear that she's not a fan of superhero movies and appears to blame them for ruining the moviegoing experience as a whole. In fact, she holds a certain level of disdain for all things blockbuster and compares releases like that to how companies recover gas and old from shale rock. If that seems like something of an extreme comparison, it's probably because it is!
"Going to the movies has become like a theme park," the actress turned filmmaker explains. "Studios making bad content in order to appeal to the masses and shareholders is like fracking – you get the best return right now but you wreck the earth." Foster went on to take aim a specific genre which is particularly popular right now. "It’s ruining the viewing habits of the American population and then ultimately the rest of the world. I don’t want to make $200 million movies about superheroes."
Bizarrely, despite those comments, Foster went on to say that she would actually consider making a superhero movie but only if it was one with, "really complex psychology." So, in other words, she hates seeing these movies take over Hollywood but would make one if it had the right story (and presumably if the money on offer was high enough).
