This year's animated Justice League movie has found its voice cast and we're getting a mixture of newcomers to the world of DC alongside some familiar faces (well, voices, I guess).

Justice League vs. The Fatal Five centres around the League taking on a group of time-travelling bad guys who come back in time to find Green Lantern Jessica Cruz. Doom Patrol star Diane Guerrero will be voicing her, while Elyes Gabel of Game of Thrones fame is taking on the role of Starboy.

Despite not appearing in that "Hush" adaptation, Kevin Conroy will be voicing Batman, Susan Eisenberg once again voices Wonder Woman, and George Newbern will be back as Superman.

As for The Fatal Five, they'll be played by Peter Jessop (Mass Effect) as Thorak, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Bloodsport, Matthew Yang King (Batman Ninja) as The Persuader, Sumalee Montano (This Is Us) as Emerald Empress, and Philip Anthony Rodriguez (Grimm) as Mano.

We'll also hear Daniela Bobadilla as Miss Martian, Kevin Michael Richardson as
Mr. Terrific, Noel Fisher as Brainiac 5, and Tara Strong as Saturn Girl. The movie doesn't have a release date but you can check out the first official stills from Justice League vs. The Fatal Five below.

She should play Jessica Cruz in the inevitable live action GL film.

And yes, I know she's on Doom Patrol as well.

I wonder why they left out Validus.

They got down right the background of the villains, they hail from the 31st century and are known foes of the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Wasn't aware this was in development tbh.

Jessica is such a complex character there is literally no way they introduce her the way she should be. A little bit like Jessica Jones, it takes so much time to understand her and feel for her. They can't just drop the "Hey, I'm Jessica, I have life crippling anxiety and agoraphobia, I spent 3 years in my house because I physically couldn't get out, and I have PTSD, which makes it really hard to believe in myself and control an alien weapon that feeds on confidence."

I hope they do her Justice (wink), but I'm not holding my breath. I'd bet her PTSD and anxiety will be completely forgotten, which is the main reason she's such a relevant, necessary and unique character.

@Asturgis - I had no idea about any of that. I'll have to take a dive...
Asturgis
Asturgis - 1/7/2019, 12:47 PM
@IronDean2099 - Yeah, in a time when PC and social marketing concerns dictate the new heroes, Jessica has been done right. She's actually original, there's no one like her in mainstream houses.

She's a scaredy cat crippled, and I mean CRIPPLED, by fear, anxiety, and agoraphobia. So much that like Sigourney Weaver in that awesome movie, she couldn't get out of her house for years without having a panic attack and passing out.

When the ring choses her, she has no idea what to do with it, she cries, she shakes like a leaf, she screams, and then shit happens, and she realizes when she has to save someone else, and not herself, that she may be the strongest Green Lantern that ever lived. She starts dating for the first time in a decade, opens up, gains confidence (you see her do her nails and hair, she explains that she never had the taste or need for that before, but now she's starting to think she can be pretty too, it sounds cheesy but I think it's inspiring for young girls)…

It's a great character.

@Asturgis
Great character indeed!
And to apply all this:
"Hey, I'm Jessica, I have life crippling anxiety and agoraphobia, I spent 3 years in my house because I physically couldn't get out, and I have PTSD, which makes it really hard to believe in myself and control an alien weapon that feeds on confidence."
To the core concept of a Green Lantern? Well...it was f*cking genius!
IronDean2099
IronDean2099 - 1/7/2019, 3:26 PM
@Asturgis - I'm assuming/hoping that her story delves into the logic of the ring choosing her in the first place, and the psychological process of why she gets from A to B. As someone who deals with some of those issues, I find it very intriguing. Does she have a core solo series, or is her story told within the framework of the larger GL universe? The last GL story I read was Volume 3 of the Geoff Johns run, so quite a lot of catching up to do, potentially.

@Asturgis - I can say with ease I know nothing of this character, but reading this makes me happy. A very relevant character in our social climate
4thMaster
4thMaster - 1/7/2019, 5:41 PM
@Asturgis - I doubt there's any room for her backstory here, too much to do with setting up the Legion and the Fatal Five, she'll most likely just be dropped in with no explanation like Stewart, Manhunter and Hawkman were in the last couple of movies.
Asturgis
Asturgis - 1/8/2019, 1:03 AM
@IronDean2099 - "Does she have a core solo series"

Well, yes and no. They didn't give her her own title (not that I know of), but they decided to create this concept that her and Simon Baz would both get a ring, that there would be 2 Green Lanterns on Earth, so the title has been about both of them. You can see Jessica's debut in Green Lanterns: Rebirth, and also in Justice League where she had a big part (title was shite though).

Sadly, I can't really say those issues have been tackled masterfully. I mean, the writers are not Ed Brubaker, Rick Remender, Gail Simone or Greg Rucka. It's a mindless pop DC title, but they do talk about it, in flashbacks, and in a few small every day scenes. She also talks to herself a lot and doubts herself a lot during both titles.
ThunderThighs
ThunderThighs - 1/8/2019, 3:21 AM
@Asturgis - It's hard to do her justice outside of comics. She's besides Hal and John probably the best GL to date.
Asturgis
Asturgis - 1/8/2019, 3:48 AM
@ThunderThighs - I hate Hal (I think he's the biggest dick of the DC universe), but I agree with you. Also love Kyle. Wish he had had a longer run in Injustice. That scene where Sinestro cuts off his finger in space, grabs his ring and lets him suffocate and freeze to death was brutal.

IronDean2099 - 1/8/2019, 4:10 AM
@Asturgis - That's a shame, but to be expected. Is Green Lanterns Rebirth a different book to Green Lantern Rebirth? New 52? Post 52?
Maybe one day I'll get a crack at writing her. That would be a dream. Thanks for the info though.

@Asturgis - And the healthy conversation.
Asturgis
Asturgis - 1/8/2019, 10:33 AM
@IronDean2099 - Hmmmm she gets her ring in Justice League 20 from New 52, is part of the amazing Justice League Darkseid War (great read) and joins the Corps officially at the end of Justice League 50. Then she's in Green Lanterns Rebirth (with an S) where her story really starts as a Green Lantern (before in Justice League New 52 she was just a woman chosen by the ring trying to escape cosmic crisis she had no part in, which was awesome). She's also in Justice League, where she starts dating, but that era of Justice League was unreadable garbage, you've been warned. Green Lanterns was shit as well to be honest, it's just that her character is great. I would advise to pick Darkseid Wars, because that's amazing comic, and see from there! Thanks to you too, nice conversation! I wish you well if you're still struggling with those issues!
