Many outlets, including
CBM, reported about two weeks ago that Cinematrographer Fabian Wagner did in fact film scenes with a black-suited Henry Cavill as Superman that were later cut from the final film after the departure of original director Zack Snyder. Well it turns out that those original reports might not have been entirely true.
Collider recently sat down for a lengthy interview with Wagner and naturally asked him about this fan-favorite version of Superman that was unfortunately cut and disappointed so many fans of the character. Below is what he had to say.
Yeah you know actually, to be totally honest I just can’t remember if we were shooting it as a test or if we were actually shooting it as a full scene with the suit. I definitely shot it, but I just can’t remember if it was more of a test or a full scene. But definitely seeing the black costume was great. So I’m not 100% sure whether that would have been in the movie anyhow.
It seems though that the black suit might have been a concept only, and was never meant to actually feature in the film. This is completely normal for large blockbuster films where a lot of concepts are tried out before finalizing the direction of the narrative and the visual look.
