Doug Liman Is Willing To Return To JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Or Another DC Films Universe Movie

Doug Liman walked away from Justice League Dark last year but the filmmaker has now revealed that he would be willing to reconsider taking the helm of that or another DC Films Universe release...

Back in August, director Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) decided to walk away from Justice League Dark due to his dissatisfaction with the movie's script. However, the filmmaker may be regretting his decision as he's revealed in a new interview that he would be willing to return to the project or even another one set in the DC Films Universe (and there are plenty of them which need a director).

Liman is, of course, a busy man as he's working on a YouTube Red series called Impulse and recently revealed a desire to develop Edge of Tomorrow 2. However, he's willing to make some room for DC!

"I would be open to it. I have a very kind of contrarian approach to how I make things and I don’t want to do them the way other people have done them. You know, Impulse is an original take on superpower as you can imagine and still be satisfying. Because obviously there’s some things – you can be original and artsy and not. … Part of the reason cliches exist is because they’re satisfying to the audience so my challenge as a filmmaker has always been to do something that’s really original and still totally satisfying on a big commercial level, which I feel we’ve done with Impulse and I’d be really interested in doing that within the DC world if the right piece of material comes along."

So, Liman is clearly another director who wants to reinvent the superhero genre and he could very well do so with a movie like Justice League Dark. The question is, will Warner Bros. now let him return?

The studio has been desperately searching for a Justice League Dark director for what feels like years and if Liman tells them he'll come back, then it will probably happen! For now, though, the project remains in development hell. Do you guys want it to happen? Let us know your thoughts below.

This guy wants back in. Be interesting to see if they allow him his “take” on whatever he wants to tackle.

But make the Edge of Tomorrow sequel first please😊

If WB allows him to do what how he wants it to do, then sure why not

Justice League Dark will be near the top of my 'most anticipated DC movies' list at least until it progresses to a state where there actually are things I can potentially like or dislike.

@Kyos - There are so many projects up in the air at the moment within the WB/DC realms it’s quite hard to stay positive for anything they’re considering ATM.

Looking forward to Aquaman though and I am glad Shazam will begin production soon too.

Unpopular opinion but I think that a JLD film shouldn't be a priority right now for WB. I think they should focus on some main players before they decide to make this film.

Although I would love to see a proper Swamp Thing on the big screen.

@L0RDbuckethead - I agree on both counts. MoS 2 is what I really want to see as well as other JL characters, including GL Corps in terms of movies that aren’t in pre-production or actual production.

@RolandD - After JL, I'm pretty intrigued at the thought of a Cyborg solo film (or a Titans film - if they can make that work).

I found Fisher to be one of the better-written characters in that film.

@L0RDbuckethead - We can keep hoping. He was well written. A bit of pathos with what happened to him and worries about what he could become without making him a tragic character.

This guy seems to be "open" about pretty much everything, i also keep reading that his schedule is quite full, so the f*ck man...stop teasing!

I think these directors that are "open" to DC properties smell desperation from the studio. If they have a name and track record, I think they feel they can negotiate with a bit of leverage.

Is funny how his scheduled suddenly opened up. The Wall wasn't as well received as he thought and after filming Chaos Walking it seems the other projects he attached himself to fell through. I wouldn't mind seeing him return to the DCEU as long as Edge of Tommorrow 2 happens first.

Finally, another good director in-line for DC/WB. Liman should be making Flashpoint after a film like Edge of Tomorrow. He's the perfect fit, but instead they got two knuckleheads at the helm of that soon-to-be trainwreck. DC literally means "don't care", but let's hope something positive happens... fast.

They need him and he needs them...this should work at this point? Besides, I "hope" they've learned their lesson from JL.

I'll be honest seeing a Justice League Dark over another Justice League movie is what I'd prefer.
