Abrams' Bad Robot firm and WarnerMedia (now Warner Bros. Discovery) inked a nine-figure film and television agreement in 2019, and Duster is the first series to come of it. The Shining spinoff Overlook and a Justice League Dark project were the other two Bad Robot concepts for the yet-to-launch HBO Max that were announced in April 2020. Duster was the third project. With worries about the intended $200 million+ budget for the latter two and Abrams' long-developing sci-fi series Demimonde (which was for the HBO parent channel), they have since been shelved, though Bad Robot has shopped Overlook to other potential buyers.
The Justice League Dark-related J.J. Abrams series Madame X was supposed to follow the adventures of DC Universe mystic Madame Xanadu. The role of Madame Xanadu in Swamp Thing was played by Jeryl Prescott, and this project would have been her first significant exposure to live action. One of the most potent mystics in the DC Universe is Madame Xanadu, but she frequently plays supporting or subsidiary roles to more famous characters. She frequently lends a hand in leading The Spectre and has previously cooperated with groups like Justice League Dark, the Suicide Squad, and The Phantom Stranger. She is the mother of the Comic villain Doctor Destiny, whose abilities were simulated by Maxwell Lord in Wonder Woman 1984, and who fans would recognize from The CW's "Elseworlds" storyline.
Abrams also had plans for Zatanna and John Constantine, but those plans have since been abandoned. Instead, Abrams is serving as executive producer on the Constantine 2 movie, which will star Keanu Reeves.
In-Depth Look At What We're Missing Out On
Justice League Dark is a comic book series that features a team of supernatural and magical heroes within the DC Comics universe. The team consists of characters such as John Constantine, Zatanna, Swamp Thing, Deadman, and many others.
The series follows the team as they investigate and battle supernatural threats that are beyond the scope of the regular Justice League. These threats can range from demonic possessions to interdimensional invasions.
The team is often brought together by John Constantine, a chain-smoking, foul-mouthed magician who has a knack for getting himself into trouble. Zatanna, a powerful sorceress and former member of the regular Justice League, often serves as the team's leader.
The team has faced numerous adversaries throughout their various story arcs, including Felix Faust, Enchantress, and the Upside-Down Man. They have also battled the forces of Hell itself, as well as other supernatural beings from different dimensions.
Overall, the Justice League Dark story is a thrilling and often eerie exploration of the supernatural aspects of the DC Universe, and the various heroes who must come together to face these otherworldly threats.
