JUSTICE LEAGUE (Finally) Passes The $100 Million Mark At The Domestic Box Office

Earlier today, we found out that Justice League could wind up being very costly for Warner Bros., but things may just be looking up for the DC superhero flick with a large percentage of schools being off.

It took four days instead of the usual three, but Justice League managed to cross the $100 mark at the US box office today after pulling in $7.5M from Monday screenings.

The movie has begun to benefit from the holiday break, and the belief - or rather, hope - is that with a large percentage of K-12 schools still on break, Zack Snyder's movie will enjoy a bit of a stretch this week and bump up its numbers.

However, Disney/Pixar's Coco begins previewing tonight, and that's bound to draw in plenty of potential JL punters.

When it's all said and done, Justice League could potentially wind up costing the studio between $50 and $100 million - but it's not dead in the water just yet!

@Invasion96 - first weekend is fanboys in mass, second weekend is fanboys seeing it again desperately trying to help the movie save face. I wish we could all ban together and show these companies that we won’t accept this crap. I don’t care what company it is, between this and F4 and the crap Sony was attempting to push out, it’s disingenuous

@thekabsin - Well said. If fans turned on WB and forced them to change their ways, we would win and win quick. As it is, they just wont learn.

@TheGoat - The problem is that they keep learning the wrong lesson. They hacked Batman v Superman to pieces and it underperformed and was ripped apart by critics. They hired a trailer making company to hack Suicide Squad to pieces and it underperformed and was ripped apart even more by critics. They left Patty Jenkins alone and let her and Allan Heinberg work with Zack Snyder on Wonder Woman and it became the most well received DC Film. Zack Snyder had to bow out due to a family tragedy and Joss Whedon was brought in to finish the film. Then, when he and Snyder's film didn't meet the two hour limit, they hacked it to pieces and... well you know the rest. If the studio would let these movies stand on their own, and stop trying to "fix" them in the editing room, they would fare so much better.

@thekabsin - lol this movie is just like f4 its a mess. a bunch of random scenes snyder shot were string together because he gave up and left so the actors gave up and didnt bother acting. the studio just tried to salvage what they can and made a film. the same situation that happened to f4.

people r just more forgiving becuz its the 1st live adaptation of the JL. if this was a reboot like f4 it would have flopped worst.

@SisterSunday52 - Maybe. It's easy to say that now, but I think the root problem is they make movies for die hard fans and yet they aren't true to the characters so they even alienate some of us.

I did not like MOS. I thought the beginning was great, casting solid, but the end did not resonate with me and there wasn't enough Supes being Supes. BvS sucked but had some awesome parts. SSquad was just plain horrible and forgettable. JL was more like BvS, but had it's own issues. Between Martha, the resurrection, silly one liners shoe horned in, and more, it's just a hot mess. I'm not sure editing would fix any of these movies.

@Warcam - @Warcam - Every One had condemned this movie the day BvS came out, it has not had a fair chance to succeed, Everyone expect Thor 3 to be awesome with marvels track record but this pre conceived notion JL isn't good is a shame this was the best movie we could of hoped for with two completely different directors scuplting this film! Everyone please ignore the reviews and just go to the movies and be a kid and enjoy finally getting the superman we needed and wanted!

@James99201 - yup, justice league isn't anywhere near as bad as people say. Solid action flick that's just kind of cheap, and empty, but still highly enjoyable. It really reminded me of most marvel movies.
It would be a shame if we never got a sequel from a more focused director, because I want to see more of this team.

I am so pleasantly surprised. Thanks everyone for making my expectations zero. I expected a turd sandwich, and instead just got a tasty sub with a bit too much cheese.

and missing onions. Gotta have onions man.

@SisterSunday52 - I think you are on to something here, as it seems to me that studio enforced editing late in the game is responsible for a good chunk of the issues.

Not all of them though. There are some fairly glaring story problems, especially in continuity between the films. I'm more open to some change in characterization than many would be, but there are some issues in JL that stand out in that department as well.

MyBeard - 11/21/2017, 2:56 PM
@James99201 - Yes and no. The movie has some issues, but also a lot of enjoyable moments and amazing visuals. I'm reading a lot of overreaction here; it isn't as bad as many people are making it out to be.

That said, I feel like a lot of the problem story wise comes from trying to accommodate BvS. Continuity is just all over the place at times, both in story and characterization. There are other things, like jokes that didn't land well, but it was worth the 8 bucks I paid to see it.

@MyBeard - I was not dismissing the problems but still fun and a good hope for the universe, I need, Man of Steel 2 now and they should go with Man of Steel: Superman; for the title
MyBeard
MyBeard - 11/21/2017, 4:56 PM
@James99201 - Yes, it was much more fun than I expected after reading the reactions here.

I'm down for another Supes. If they can capture the spirit of that moment of him joking with Cyborg and mix it with his trademark heroics, it could certainly work.

@SisterSunday52 - Very true, but sometimes a great editor can reel in an overly ambitious director/producter and good editing can make or break a film.
Perfect example would be Star Wars Episode 4. Was kindof a mess until Marcia Lucas finished the editing. That said, these buffons are no editing gods.
