JUSTICE LEAGUE: Zack Snyder Reveals "Snyder Cut" Fans Have Made Nearly $500,000 For Suicide Prevention

"Snyder Cut" fans have got a bad rap, but supporters of Zack Snyder's vision have now earned nearly $500,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention while campaigning for his Justice League...

Supporters of the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League have proven themselves to be a passionate bunch, and that's often led to them being ridiculed online. It's unfortunately one of those situations where one bad apple ruins it for everyone else, but ever since HBO Max gave Justice League: The Snyder Cut the green light, things have changed somewhat!

One thing that's always jumped out is the fact that as well as campaigning for the release of this Director's Cut, they've also raised money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

That's because Zack Snyder's daughter sadly died by suicide while Justice League was shooting, and the filmmaker has now confirmed that fans have raised close to half a million dollars over the past few years.

Snyder himself has, of course, contributed to that by launching t-shirts (including an "Associate Producer" one that went on sale during DC FanDome) for sale through charity websites, but who do you think bought them? Those same supporters of the "Snyder Cut" who campaigned for its release!

Needless to say, this is definitely a feel-good story, and one that proves that Justice League: The Snyder Cut is perhaps more than just a movie; it's a movement.

Check out Snyder's comments below:

.....and Harrassed roughly that same number of people on Twitter"

Great work for a great cause by a community that would be so much better if it didn't cultivate the exact type of behavior that hurts the mental health of others

@OmegaDaGrodd - Or maybe this shows that most of the snyder cut people weren't even involved in that and you're just using a vocal minority to paint the entire group as bad.

@Origame -

I didn't paint an entire group as anything, I said it would be great if a community that's capable of good stuff like this didn't simultaneously spawn such toxic members of said community, regardless of what you want to argue the actual percentages are

@OmegaDaGrodd - every fandom has toxicity to some extent. You can't expect an entire community to control what one asshole does and then blame as though they approved of such behavior. That's not the world we live in mate.

"every fandom has toxicity to some extent"

Every fandom has a toxic subgroup or two within it. Not every fandom is so toxic that one of the most public figures in it gets to call a black dude a monkey and then a few months later get to be a featured guest of Zack Snyder at the Fandome

There are levels to this

Calling the Snyder community a "community" instead of a "cult" was me being generous, but I question the knowledge on this subject of anyone who reads my comment and immediately jumps to the "all toxic fandoms matter" deflection. The "messiah" of the cult* (Zack Snyder himself) is a pretty vocally toxic person himself, so it's not surprising that so many members take it up so many notches

* = "Cult" is of course something we normally view as a pejorative, but it's not always a totally bad thing. I doubt that this amount of money would have been raised for such an important issue if not for the fervent devotion of Zack Snyder's superfans. There is good and bad in everything and not all extremes are inherently destructive, which is specifically why I noted in my comment that this group would be so much cooler if they weren't infested with so much counterproductive (to their own cause) harassment and shittiness

@Gravityle -

I'll actually amend that last comment. I don't think "vocally toxic" is the right word to describe Snyder. I'm mostly thinking of that last little outburst he had with the Scott Mendelson dude on Twitter, but that's not really indicative of how I've seen him behave. I'll say that Snyder is all too willing to wink at and feed into the toxic members of his fandom, which is a big reason why so many of them are so brazenly toxic, but he's not necessarily modeling the toxic behavior that they are exhibiting, for whatever that's worth

Burying your child has go to be one of the hardest things to do, good for Zack helping others avoid that dreadful task, helping young folks want to make it to old age, not that they definitely will, but now it’s a possibility.

Also - most fanboys (especially Twitter stans) are toxic. LucasFilm, SnyderCut, Marvel, DC. Idc. They’re all in the same boat.

Say what you want about Zack Snyder and his movies but at the end of the day, he is a man with a family who endured a tragic pain most of can't even imagine. This was a good move on the fans' part.

If you're reading this, you matter. The world is a better place because you're here. Whatever trial you are facing, it too shall pass. Things will get better. God bless.
