Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released the first trailer for Legion of Super-Heroes, the upcoming animated adventure that will see Supergirl meet the team of heroes from the future.

Batman and Superman also look set to take centre stage, while the latest addition to the DC Animated Universe promises to introduce a lot of obscure comic book characters who haven't been given the chance to shine on screen before now. Throw in heaps of action, and this looks like another worthy addition to the current iteration of this shared world.

Taking Supergirl into the 31st Century, Meg Donnelly will lend her voice to Kara in the movie, while Harry Shum Jr. is taking on the role of Braniac 5. The lead cast also includes Darren Criss as Superman, Matt Bomer as The Flash, and the return of Jensen Ackles as Batman.

In Legion of Super-Heroes, the story picks up as Kara, devastated by the loss of Krypton, struggles to adjust to her new life on Earth. Her cousin, Superman, mentors her and suggests she leave their space-time to attend the Legion Academy in the 31st century, where she makes new friends and a new enemy: Braniac 5.

Meanwhile, she must contend with a mysterious group called the Dark Circle as it searches for a powerful weapon held in the Academy’s vault.

Butch Lukic serves as supervising producer on the project, while Jeff Wamester (Green Lantern: Beware My Power) will direct. Josie Campbell (Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous) wrote Legion of Super-Heroes, and Jim Krieg, Kimberly S. Moreau, and Sam Register produce.

As for the rest of the voice cast, we have Cynthia Hamidi as Dawnstar, Gideon Adlan as Phantom Girl, Ely Henry as Bouncing Boy, Robbie Daymond as TimberWolf & Brianiac 4, Yuri Lowenthal as Mon El, Eric Lopez as Cosmic Boy & Chemical King, Darin De Paul as Brainiac & Solomon Grundy, Ben Diskin as Arms Fall off Boy & Brainiac 2, Victoria Grace as Shadow Lass, Jennifer Hale as Alura, Daisy Lightfoot as Triplicate Girl and Zeno Robinson as Invisible Kid & Brainiac 3.

We don't have a release date for Legion of Super-Heroes yet, but the movie is expected to be released early next year.

I think DC should try a movie with this group. Could be fun and would likely do well with the right writers and director

Yes good to see the Legion!
The Dark Circle!
Although kind of disappointing they always mess up the Brainiac 5 designs in other media. I guess he sort of looks like Brainiac 5.1 from the reboot but I didn't like that design either.

@blitzkreg - Yeah, about that...

-The Superman: The Animated Series episode was three Legionnaires (Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy, and Chameleon Boy) traveling back in time to prevent Brainiac 1.0 from killing a teenage Clark Kent.

-The Justice League Unlimited episode was Supergirl, Green Lantern, and Green Arrow helping Brainiac 5 and Bouncing Boy free the rest of the Legion from the control of the Fatal Five.

Yaaaaaay! I love the Legion. More Legion content please. That entire timeline of the DC universe is woefully untapped these days.

Also, the DC universe is better when there are tons of heroes just interacting with each other on a large scale like this. I can't wait till the live action movies realize they can just go ahead and make stuff like the animated movies right now.

Got some Karamel vibes when Mon-El introduced himself to Kara.

Dawnstar's wings remind me a little to Archangel's from X-Men though.

Looking forward to it.

We does DC kick ass with their animation and suck with the movies?
