New DC Rumors Tease Ben Affleck's Batman Future, Supergirl Plans, And A CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS Movie

Despite its recent release date delay, a test screening for The Flash is said to have taken place. As a result, a fresh wave of rumours about the DC Extended Universe's future have started doing the rounds, including a report that, yes, the movie is going to reboot this shared world.

We've suspected this for a while, of course, but the consequences could upset some fans. It appears Henry Cavill's time as Superman will have officially come to an end after the Scarlet Speedster rewrites reality, with Sasha Calle instead taking centre stage as Supergirl (we've even heard that Michael Shannon's General Zod may have killed Kal-El while he was a baby in the new DCEU).

The SnyderVerse isn't being fully written out of continuity, with that reality seemingly put to one side (probably to placate the fans who might otherwise lose their minds at it being wiped away). As a result, there have also been conflicting reports about Ben Affleck's Batman future, with some claiming he's 100% done with the Dark Knight, and others alleging there's a scene with him at the end of the movie which sets the stage for a Crisis on Infinite Earths event down the line.

That likely means when all these different worlds collide at some point, the SnyderVerse could somehow come into play. We're not banking on that or a Crisis movie panning out given Warner Bros.' apparent inability to plan ahead, but it's looking like The Flash will confirm that this new DCEU is part of a larger Multiverse. From there, they at least have the option to do something with Crisis

If that is in the works, it might be best to temper expectations for The Flash as we find it hard to believe too many cameos will be thrown into the mix here, especially if they're being saved for a much bigger movie down the line. Ultimately, it could just be a smaller scale story that allows the DCEU to move on from Zack Snyder's vision, simplifying continuity, while teasing future Multiversal madness.

The Flash is set to be released on June 23, 2023.
