It Sounds Like A MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE Comic-Con Is A Very Real Possibility

Star Wars Celebration gathers lovers of that specific franchise on an almost yearly basis but is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's fanbase large enough to warrant a convention of their own?

Back in 2014, Marvel Studios held an event announcing its Phase 3 slate alongside a first look at Thanos wielding the Infinity Gauntlet. Aside from appearances at the likes of D23 and the San Diego Comic-Con, that's been it for them since but could we one day get a Marvel Cinematic Universe convention?

During a recent interview, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed that it's something which has actually been discussed but it seems nothing specific has been put in place for that as of right now.

"Over the years there have been discussions about that. I think what we try to do occasionally in San Diego we’re very proud of and think is a fun tradition. That being said, I think [Star Wars] Celebration is pretty amazing. I’ve been to a few Celebrations and the idea of doing something like that … I think we have enough content, and enough fans, and enough ideas that we could easily do something like that, I’m just not sure where or when."

An event like this would no doubt be held in America but the time which goes into planning something like this is significant and Feige already has more than enough to think about without adding this to his plate too! Still, you have to hope it will happen one of these days, especially as it would be an incredible experience for fans where props, announcements, and big reveals could all take place.

Ugh. This segregation of comic book lovers of any company is poisonous.

@TheRedCondom - I agree. But, if there was a way to bleed off some of the intense fervor of people who are just X-studio fanboys, it could potentially return the regional comic-cons to more of an open field?

I'm not really a convention guy, so I could be totally wrong about that.

I think a one big annual D23 makes more sense instead of star wars celebration, an annual marvel event and the D23 every two years

Star Wars has been around 40 damn years they get the luxury to do this, y’all been around 10 years. Fans will end up paying for the MCU, D23, and SDCC only to realize they showed the same shit

@Invasion96 - I don't think you're looking at it the right way. Star Wars has been around 40 years, but they only have a handful of movies. The vast majority of that 40 years was filled with nothing happening other than comics being released, which Marvel has been doing for far longer than 40 years. Just because they only have 10 years of films doesn't mean that they haven't been around long enough to justify this type of idea.

@Invasion96 - are you saying Star Wars is older than Marvel?

@Invasion96 - Comic Conventions are about celebrating comics, in which case Marvel has been around a lot longer than Star Wars... and if their own convention was not just about the movies but also the TV and comics then i say YES!

Star Wars isn’t something you can say “well they do so can we” that’s an entity that can never be duplicated or compared to ever.

@Invasion96 - "that’s an entity that can never be duplicated" likely not, but equal comparisons? Certainly. Surpassed? Guaranteed. I adore Star Wars but its just silly to believe nothing will come close to or surpass it in time.

40 years is a blip in the grand scheme of things. Even now, cinematic storytelling is in its infancy. Try not to say Never. It's as bad as the word can't. Dangle the "undoable" in front of the determined and consider it done.

It will be surpassed. As will the MCU. To consider anything else is to consider 2017 as the apex of creativity, storytelling and cinematic experiences. Which is just insane, quite frankly.

lol just a couple of days ago i was talking with my die hard MCU friend and saying how BIG Marvel Studios got in a really short time.

Believe me, as of right now, and if they keep this pace, Disney is holding back MS.
They limit Marvel Studios' potential.
Yep, that speaks volumes.

@Doomsday8888 - What? Hell marvel studios is just behind star wars, in a few more years they can have their own con, marvel's potential isn't being hold back, they are one of the biggest brands

@MrPositive -
Glad you mentioned SW, cause that was kinda my point.

You see, Disney is just too powerful, they're basically competing with each other, and because of this reason, Disney "can't allow" too many SW/MCU movies in one year.
That's why they shuffled some of their release date, can't have Infinity War too close to a SW movie!
Marvel Studios is the only studios born JUST to make CBMs unlike Wb/Fox or Sony.
I believe that if it were up to them, they COULD release more than 3 movies per year, but as of now they can't, Disney has other movies in their hands and MS is getting bigger and bigger.

@Doomsday8888 - So you think Star Wars should go?

@MrPositive -
I like both, so no lol.
No, what i'm saying is that, Marvel Studios is growing and Disney should let them do that.
Either grow some balls and put MCU movies against other Disney movies, or...maybe it's time for Marvel to do their own thing.
But shit doesn't work like that, that's why we will never get more than 3 MCU movies per year, i also think that Disney puts SW over anything, so if there's anything that needs to take a backseat, it wont be a SW property.

That picture with Ruffalo standing beside Tom Holland reminded me that I always forget how short Ruffalo is. They are both 5'8"...

@Eli - True but just having a convention that has MCU and Star Wars as the main focus would gain my attention.

Its a good thing that Disney dragged Marvel out of the gutter and built them back up to a respectable company.
