Now that Better Call Saul has wrapped-up, Bob Odenkirk is free to pursue other projects, and we're hearing Marvel Studios may have seized the opportunity to court the highly in-demand actor for a key role in Wonder Man.
Though it doesn't sound like negotiations have officially taken place, The Illuminerdi reports that the production is keen to enlist Odenkirk for a "special role" in the upcoming Disney+ series. Details are sparse, but their sources believe the Nobody star is being eyed to play Simon Williams' manager.
This could be an original character, or possibly a take on Williams' agent from the comic books, Neal Saroyan.
Nothing is certain at this point, of course, but The Illuminerdi broke last night's news that Aubrey Plaza had joined the cast of Agatha: Coven of Chaos before the trades, so this is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Wonder Man will star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the title role, with Ben Kingsley set to return as Trevor Slattery. We're not sure how he'll factor into the show, but the Academy Award-winner is said to have a "major role," and Slattery's involvement may back-up a recent report that the project is being developed as a Hollywood satire.
In the comics, Simon Williams was originally introduced as an enemy of Tony Stark's before going on to join The Avengers as a hero while also launching a successful acting career, and the character's Hollywood background is expected to be an integral part of this show.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is on board as a writer along with Brooklyn Nine-Nine, 30 Rock, and Community scribe Andrew Guest, who will also serve as showrunner.
