Zodiac: Marvel's Mysterious Spy Thriller Enlists Israeli Euphoria Co-Creator; New Details Revealed

Marvel Television's planned Zodiac series has found its writing team, and we also have some new details on the mysterious "dark spy thriller."

Marvel Studios announced the title of a brand-new series during NYCC earlier this month, but we didn't really have much to go on when it comes to the mysterious Zodiac until very recently.

Now, Deadline is reporting that the show has enlisted Amit Cohen and Ron Leshem as writers.

Leshem served as a creator of the original Israeli Euphoria series, as well as the HBO adaptation from Sam Levin starring Zendaya. Alongside Cohen, they created and executive produced multiple Israeli shows, including Trust No One, Bad Boy, 8200, Red Skies, and Traitor.

The trade has also revealed that Zodiac will "follow a pair of spies who are chasing targets who have special abilities."

Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, Animation, and comic books, recently dropped some hints about the show: “If you’re a fan of the comics, there’s a lot hidden in that logo. That’s all you’re getting. It’s supposed to be a secret.”

The most obvious clue is part of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. insignia visible in the logo, and rumor has it that the show will "continue the story" of some of the characters from the long-cancelled ABC series. Whether Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), Daisy Johnson (Chloe Benett), or any of the other main players will actually appear remains to be seen, but even if they do, it definitely doesn't sound like they will be the focus.

According to Knight Edge Media, Zodiac is being developed as "a dark British spy thriller," and Marvel is currently casting for three main British leads: two male and one female.

"These leads are not expected to have comic book counterparts and are totally original."

The site also claims that the series will be a "lot grittier" than the James Bond or Mission: Impossible movies, and mentions FX series The Americans as a comparison.

The prevailing theory is that Zodiac will be the name of a new organization in the MCU that picks up the pieces of S.H.I.E.L.D., and there's speculation that the show may introduce a version of MI-13, a group that featured the likes of Captain Britain, Blade, and the Black Knight.

Zodiac is the first new Marvel Television project announced since the studio canceled the previously renewed Wonder Man after a single season, and also announced that Daredevil: Born Again will end after its upcoming third season.

Winderbaum addressed the MCU canon status of AOS and Agent Carter last year.

"Well, I'll tell you this, and put it to you like this. It's exciting for me to think about how to square those ABC shows with the canon. That, to me, if you know me and the way my brain works, that is fun territory to imagine."

Daniel Richtman has also shared the following:

Just to clarify , Ron Leshem was given executive producer credit for Euphoria because Sam Levinson who was the actual showrunner & writer behind the American HBO version was using his Israeli series as the basis for his take but to my knowledge he wasn’t creatively involved in it.

Anyway , I can’t really judge Leshem & Cohen’s work since I haven’t seen the various Israeli series they have created together but I do see backlash to this news because of their background which I guess I get but also don’t since objecting to these 2 being behind the show solely because of their religious & cultural identity due to the abhorrent actions of their government is wrong since they had nothing to do ( atleast in regards to what I’m aware of) with those decisions.

Now granted if we get statements from them defending that then that’s a different thing but so far , people are just assuming & reacting…

It seems like they have done many of these thriller espionage drama type shows so it could be their pitch was the best out of the ones Marvel heard hence they got it.

Anyway , I feel it’s too early to judge but so far I’m intrigued by Zodiac and hope it turns out well!!.

Given that blurb of agents chasing targets with special abilities and Winderbaum’s comments about the show…

It feels very much like a successor to AOS , especially the pre-Winter Soldier days but perhaps grittier though we’ll see.

The only people that will blow a fuse and pop their veins about the creative team picked for this are radicalized narrow-minded social justice keyboard warriors who parrot hate mongering spiels acting as they're above when in fact they behave like the bigots they delude themselves to be fighting against. Even if you held a mirror to them they wouldn't be able to see it. Best to ignore them.

Looking forward to what this show will be about, if it's about introducing at their own pace British superheroes then I hope they don't forget about Captain Britain and Betsy Braddock, each chance they get to introduce a new mutant shouldn't be wasted at all.

NHartMusic
NHartMusic - 10/22/2026, 9:23 PM
My takeaway from this is that Marvel Studios are so bullish on Doomsday performing well that they think people will overlook the fact they recently killed multiple projects starring in-demand Black actors, only to then greenlight a series seemingly not based on a known property with Israeli writers. If Doomsday wasn't coming out, this would be an absolutely disastrous move on multiple fronts.

@NHartMusic - I agree with the part about the blatant racism in canceling those projects, but until we know more about the actual content of Zodiac I’m not ready to write it off just because the writers are Israeli. Now if it comes out that this project is full of Hasbra talking points, or the writers are rabid Zionists, then sure, absolutely [frick] this show.

It would be great if the spy agency acquired some new technology when S.H.I.E.L.D. was dismantled—technology that allows certain retired agents to return to active duty. They are expendable, with a life expectancy of just one or two missions. That way, Dum Dum Dugan could return for the show as an L.M.D.
