Universal's Monsters Universe Enlists AQUAMAN Scribe Will Beall To Pen THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON

Deadline is reporting that Will Beall has been tasked with writing the script for Universal Pictures' The Creature From The Black Lagoon, which will be a reimagining of the 1954 horror classic and takes place within Universal's upcoming reboot of their Classic Monsters Cinematic Universe.

Beall recently completed the screenplay for Warner Bros' underwater superhero adventure, Aquaman, which has James Wan (Furious 7) in the director's chair and Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) starring in the title role. His resume also includes Gangster Squad, five episodes of Castle, and an executive producer credit on the CBS series Training Day.

Not much is known about the studio's plans for The Creature, but with a writer now in place, the search for a director and a star can't be too far off. Also, last we heard Avengers: Infinity War star Scarlett Johansson was being courted for the lead role - which isn't expected to be the monster, but a character, in the same vein as the one played by Julia Adams in the original, that the monster becomes fascinated with.

Universal's highly ambitious Classic Monsters Universe will launch this summer with their Tom Cruise-led vehicle The Mummy, which recently screened footage at CinemaCon and was met with a very positive reception.

Other Monster movies in the pipeline, include The Invisible Man with Johnny Depp playing the lead and Ed Solomon on scripting duties, The Wolf Man with Aaron Guzikowski & David Callaham scripting, Van Helsing with Jon Spaihts & Eric Heisserer and Dan Mazeau scripting, and Bride of Frankenstein with David Koepp writing the script. A new film with Count Dracula is also said to be in development.

The studio has been seeking top-level talent for this burgeoning universe and has already landed two of the biggest movie stars in the world in Cruise and Depp. They've also signed the Academy Award-winning Javier Bardem as Frankenstein's monster, up-and-comer Sofia Boutella as The Mummy and Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe as Dr. Henry Jekyll/Mr. Hyde - who may also get a solo feature down the line. Other names rumored to be in consideration are Angelina Jolie as the Bride of Frankenstein and possibly Dwayne Johnson as the Wolf Man.

I hope this monster universe is actually scary. The Mummy looks fun, but I don't get ANY kind of horror vibes from it yet. So hopefully they do that with this and a few other movies they have planned.

Still wish Dracula Untold was considered canon, wasn't amazing but was solid and would love Luke Evans to get some love and more lead roles(CAST HIM AS NAMOR MARVEL).

I really want to see what the creature is going to look like. It is my favorite design of all of Universal's old movie monsters.

OK. I'll wait to see The Mummy to decide whether or not to be excited for anything regarding this universe.

Anyway, Power Rangers is about to start, so I'm gonna be off site for a while. Hope it's good.
