While Universal's The Mummy, was an unfortunate disappointment at the domestic box office, grossing just over $80.1 million in the States, internationally - where Tom Cruise's star power reigns supreme - the Dark Universe launching pad fared considerably better. As per Box Office Mojo, the Cruise-led vehicle powered its way to over $327.67 million this summer from foreign territories ($91.7 million from China alone), bringing its final box office haul to over $407.7 million worldwide - a considerably better outcome than what was initially expected.
Now, while the Alex Kurtzman-helmed film is still likely to lose money, it's now expected to be significantly less than the $95M that was estimated back in June and with strong home video & Digital HD sales, it should actually be considerably less than $50M - it might even make a profit - which would certainly bode well for any potential sequel as well as for the future of the Dark Universe.
The Mummy made its way to Digital HD late last month and will finally arrive on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD this coming Tuesday. To get you excited for the release, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has released a ton of cool new bonus content, including deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and a handful of clips.
