Yesterday was a big day for Universal Pictures as they officially dropped the veil on their Dark Universe with an informative press release and an epic cast portrait that featured Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Russell Crowe, and Sofia Boutella all assembled and ready to usher in a whole new world of Gods and Monsters.

Following the announcement, two awesome new IMAX-exclusive posters were released online. The first, via Collider, sees Tom Cruise embrace his inner sense of adventure as he descends deeper and deeper into the monster's tomb, while the second, via Regal Cinemas, is a much more bloodthirsty take on one of the previous one-sheets as we see Sofia Boutella's titular villain set her sights on Cruise's Nick Morton.

UPDATE: The first clip and a new featurette have been released!

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

I'm actually really looking forward to the new Dark Universe.

"The Creature from the Black Lagoon" trilogy was my favorite as a kid. I remember having a plush of every universal minster and a model of the gillman.

Top one is alright, really don't think it's essential to have Tom Cruise front and centre in a generic pose though. Would actually prefer a poster without him on it and that focuses solely on The Mummy

So what role is Tom Cruise playing in all these movies?
Menks123
Menks123 - 5/23/2017, 3:10 PM
@JoeMomma29 - I'm hoping for a Van Helsing descendant. I see a lot of people thinking he ends up being a mummy at the end or some shit.
JoeMomma29
JoeMomma29 - 5/23/2017, 3:15 PM
@Menks123 - That is exactly what I was thinking........or he becomes a Wolf Man.....since the Mummy curses him!

@JoeMomma29 -

On May 1, 2012, Universal signed on with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman a two-year deal, which includes producing a reboot of Van Helsing, which would star Tom Cruise. Later Cruise left the project however has now appeared in 'The Mummy' potentially signalling that he reached a deal to play the character.

Now, lets look at the current line-up based on multiple reports;
Johnny Depp = Invisible Man
Javier Bardem = Frankenstein's monster
Dwayne Johnson = Wolf Man (Reported by Deadline)
Russell Crowe = Dr Jekyll
Sofia Boutella = The Mummy
? = Dracula
? = Creature from the Black Lagoon
Tom Cruise = ?

In the trailer he appears to be unable to die, as he comes back to life after the plane crash. It's noticeable that those involved with Van Helsing wanted a hero character who had no powers and was basically terrified - so i doubt Tom Cruise would fit that vision if his character has already encountered The Mummy though it could still be him.

@Scarilian -

A new trailer has been released showing The Mummy seemingly terrified by Tom Cruise's character. His eyes split similar to her and then he moves quickly slamming her into a wall. He does not appear to have any other exterior changes.

Surely there is no way Tom Cruise is simply playing "Nick Morton"... if you are aiming for an all-star cast epic monsters universe you don't waste Tom Cruise on a "Nick Morton".

Good money surely has to be on a Van Helsing reveal, if not Dracula himself.

@528491 - Naw! I know in the trailers it Dr. H says she is turning him into a monster.....I feel as though it could be Wolfman!

So Dracula Untold is now officially what Green Lantern was for a potential DC universe? Kind of a pity, because the whole superhero-ish monster vibe that one had going on seems like it would've fit rather well with the Cruise character.

Also I can't say that the Mummy movie looks appealing to me beyond the actual mummy character. The idea of Invisible Depp so far doesn't do much for me either. But the Frankenstein's Monster thing with Bardem doesn't sound half bad.

@JoeMomma29 - I think he is going to end up being Dr. Mark Williams, the guy who funds these expeditions and then he takes up a role at Prodigium, the dark universe's shield, led by Dr. Jekyll

With almost every single cinematic universe we know whether they tell us or not the endgame and how all these different characters come together

Marvel they have to form to become the avengers and fight local and Cosmic threats
DC it's the JL, Even the Monster Universe we know Godzilla and King Kong and the rest will come together to battle.

But with DARK UNIVERSE we don't know if the monsters will be "Anit-Heroes" "bad guys" or even " heroes"

The invisible man is one messed up guy who straight up murders people for pleasure. But that is the film I want...but how does that fit into a team up?

I really wonder how much these films are going to be connected outside of Dr. Jekyll.

So many questions! I love it.

Monsters bad guys and fighting against human good guys?
Monsters ain't heroes and battling some greater force?
Monsters split with some battling on good side and some on bad ?

OR is this all just eventually leading to...

THE MONSTER SQUAD directed by the Duffer Brothers?

Typical popcorn flick. Nothing more or less. I liked the magic that Brendan Frazier's initial Mummy film created but I have a feeling that this will be a Plotless CGI fest.
