Tom Cruise is going to have his hands full this summer with The Mummy, who is more than ready to usher in a whole new age of Gods and Monsters, hellbent on bringing terror to the world once more.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly as part of their Summer Movie Preview, Sofia Boutella, who plays the titular monster, spoke on her character's tragic backstory. "I’m an Egyptian princess who is promised to become Pharaoh, and is deceived by her father. He removes that promise from her because he has a child, and the child is a son. Having nothing to lose, she summons the wrong god, in order to get what she wanted, that power that will give her what she was promised. She’s put aside for a very long time because she became dangerous. In modern times, she comes back, to go after what she was promised to receive, to begin with."

With the film just over a month away, Universal, in collaboration with the Syfy channel, has announced a new Mummy Mondays promotion that promises to bring us exclusive content from the upcoming monster movie every Monday from this week until the film's release on June 9.

Check out the two new featurettes below:

Plus, check out a new international TV spot that seemingly gives Universal's burgeoning Classic Monsters Universe an official name: the Dark Universe.
Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

The Mummy features:
Director: Alex Kurtzman
Tom Cruise as Nick Morton
Sofia Boutella as Princess Ahmanet/The Mummy
Annabelle Wallis as Jenny Halsey
Jake Johnson as Sgt. Vail
Courtney B. Vance as Colonel Gideon Forster
Russell Crowe as Dr. Henry Jekyll/Mr. Hyde
Javier Botet as Set
Selva Rasalingam as King Menehptre
Dylan Smith as Lorenzo Montanari
Rez Kempton as Foreman
Chasty Ballesteros as Kira Lee
Marwan Kenzari as Agent of Prodigium
Alaa Saif as Sickle Slave

@RagnarGolem - Why because it is not the MCU?

I would not mind seeing this take off.

@MarvelDCfan18 - I want the Sony's Non Spider-Man universe with Venom and Black Cat/Sable Film to fail too.

@JoeMomma29 - What? I'm a fan of the original Universal Monsters movies. I want horror movies with, maybe, some adventure. But I don't want to see Tom Cruise movies with scenes that look like a 'Fast and Furious/Mission Impossible' movie.

@RagnarGolem - so you want the monsters' universe to fail because you don't like the type of movie they are proposing... Kind of a selfish reason there.
RagnarGolem
RagnarGolem - 4/26/2017, 8:40 PM
@Urubrodi - Because I'm a fan of the original Universal Monsters movies AND because this movie is looking like a complete misrepresentation of the original characters (books and movies).

It's like a Spider-Man horror mockumentary depressive movie.

I think I'm being pretty rational here.

Looks exciting. It will be more terrifying if they don't show us all of the terrifying scenes in the trailers. I decided to quit watching these trailers now. Looking forward to it. Glad Russel is on board.
