These are 5 characters I feel are currently underused in the DC universe (comics, films or otherwise) and I would like to see more of
1. Dr Fate (AKA kent Nelson/Nabu)
My Take
Dr Fate is the mantle that Kent Nelson took on when he put on the helmet that contained the spirit of Nabu, he is a lord of order and knowledgable in the mystical arts. He is an amazing character , most people who know him go giddy at any sort of teaser where he is mentioned. Oddly enough within the new 52 Dr Fate currently does not have any books going. I read Journey into Mystery and I absolutely loved it, the potential with him is enormous and DC please give him his own series.
Potential in DC Cinematic Universe - Shazam movie- We all know that Nabu who inhabits the helmet was an adviser along with Teth-Adam (better known as Black Adam) to the pharoah during the time of Shazam. How cool would it be to have him somewhere in the shazam film? Also a solo movie for him based on the Journey into mystery series would be awesome.
2.The Spectre (Jim Corrigan)
My Take
The spectre is the spirit of vengeance and has been in existence since time. I read a run of the spectre on comixology i believe was released in the late 80's. It was nothing short of Brilliant. However there is nothing for him in the current 52 and in my opinion he is too awesome to not have his own series. I would love to see a new run for him in 2015 if not then use him more in the those 'Justice league Dark' or 'Trinity of sin' books.
Potential in DCU- Jim Corrigan' story is begging to be told on Cinema. Look him up and you will see why.
3. New Gods
My Take
I was going to do an individual one for Orion, then Mr Miracle, then light ray, then i thought sod it, im just calling it "New Gods".
For the Uninitiated The "New Gods" are a superhuman race of beings from the Planets New Genesis and Apokalips. Most of you will be familiar with Darkseid, but these guys have so much depth to them. I love the mystery of the Anti-life equation and the source wall.
I love how Darkseid is truly obsessed by the equation and yet a piece of the equation lies within his son "Orion" who was given at birth to his arch nemesis HIgh father.
I love Mr Miracle who is the person with the truest control of the Anti-life equation and love how he fled to earth to escape Darkseid. I love Metron and how he is neither good or bad and just simply him. I mean if you have never read any of the new God Comics, I would definitely recommend picking it up as these guys are incredible and among the most intriguing of the DCU.
Currently there is the "GOD head" story arc running with the green lanterns but i want more.
Potential in DC cinematic Universe- I would love to see them hinted at in the wonder woman movie and for the topic of the anti-life equation and the source wall to be a theme that permeates the entire DC movie universe building up to Justice League two and the green lantern movie taking them out to the far reaches of space and the source wall, it could be epic, I mean 'Lord of the rings' epic.
4. Martian Manhunter (J'onn J'onzz)
My Take
The Martian Manhunter is the tragic alien whose planet was destroyed and was unwittingly teleported to earth in an accident. At the Moment he does not have his own comic even though he is currently a part of justice league comic, his appearance is not enough to satisfy my appetite. I think he deserves his own book and his range of abilities and backstory means the stories that can be told about him are varied and endless. DC In 2015 please give me a martian Manhunter comic.
Potential in DC cinematic Universe- I would love them to introduce martian manhunter in the end credit for Batman v Superman almost as a warning that darkseid or brainiac is coming, it could easily be written in that his planet got destroyed while darkseid or brainiac where searching for whatever it is that led them to earth. Also in Justice league movies you would expect to see him in there somewhere, and then eventually having his own movie.
5. Hawk man and Hawk Girl (Katar Hol and Shayera Thal)
My Take
Kater Hol and Sheyara Thal are two fantastic characters from the alien Thanagarian race, originally mistaken as angels when they came to earth, the love story and warrior spirit prominent in their stories are empowering and endearing at the same time.
Some of the most amazing stories I have read in the DCU have featured and centred on them. They are strangely scarce in the new 52 and i would love to have some more stories about them.
Potential in DC Cinematic Universe
I would use them as the main protagonists in the Shazam Movie, they would be the reason black adam was made. In the comics black adam and nabu(he would become the spirit in dr fates helmet) advised the pharoah when they found their space ship. I would use some of this for the shazam movie. I would talk about how they came to earth to escape the reincarnation curse and decided to bring order by conquering it and the wizard shazam embues teth adam with power so he can fight them however the power corrupts black adam and then shazam comes along and they end up helping shazam but die in the process. I would use the reincarnation curse to introduce them again in the wonder woman and aquaman movies.
Thats it for now folks, are there any characters you want to see more of? Or do you have your own top 5 characters you want to see more of? Let me know below.
